I know… the ENTIRE situation, from the very thought of IVF, to the “reduction of embryos”, to the “worthiness” of the mother… Good God the WHOLE THING is just so wrong and sad. 😦
:sad_yes:

I wonder why she didn’t choose adoption. I mean, there are soooo many kids out there needing good homes. I don’t think what she did was ‘wrong,’ per se, just seems to go in line with perhaps a narcisisstic personality, that wants as many ‘mini me’s’ as possible, but doesn’t realize the ramfications of such actions. I pray she does well as their mom though! And maybe a nice man will come along, marry her, and the kids will have a mom and dad to grow up with. :o The problem that I see with this whole thing…isn’t the IVF, isn’t the fact that this woman wanted to have so many kids, but more that we are becoming a society where men are being inched out of the way, for women to somehow emerge as these ‘super heroes,’ of sorts. It takes a mom and dad to effectively and positively raise children. I grew up with neither, as my parents died when I was 10…and believe me, it affected me negatively. I have friends who grew up with either dad or mom raising them, and they were negatively impacted, as well. It takes both a mom and dad to effectively and positively raise kids. Now, I mean a home that is healthy, and well adjusted. There are all kinds of abusive homes out there, with two parents.

So, it seems to me once again, we see here a case where radical feminism is rearing its ugly head to imply that ‘men are simply not needed,’ and thus removed completely from the equation. From that vantage point, this situation to me, is very sad.😦

The other thing about this situation that disturbs me is that all of her children were conceived through IVF. I’m happy that she didn’t go with aborting some of the babies when the doctors found out that she was having eight, but I feel that these doctors should have never agreed to do this especially if they looked at her history. I also heard on the news by other medical experts that it was unethical for these doctors to even implant 8 fertilized eggs into someone like her. Apparently, that is something which shouldn’t be done.

Like others, I think having a large family is wonderful, but with the way this woman is doing it, it just seems like she has some psychological issues which need to be addressed.
Not trying to correct you but, uhm, this is surprising even to me, they were 6 fertilized embryos implanted-they were the last 6 she had left, and 2 of them divided giving her the eight babies she has… NOW I am not all up for the whole invitro thing and the single mom thing but let me tell you something-even though doctor’s are only supposed to implant 2-4 fertilized eggs, because one or more may not “latch on”, all 6 attached themselves, and even 2 divided themselves and 2 more children were created!! IF that’s not a true miracle of GOD I don’t know what is.

Yes I strongly believe that single moms have 14 children is a bit-well-uhm- frustrating…and Catholic wise-perhaps WRONG and INSANE-as well as having babies through invitro, but 6 embryos all attached themselves and even made more children… that’s just amazing…

I am not really looking at the children as a bad thing-they are wonderful gifts of GOD- actually I feel sorry for the tiny tots since their grandparents are the ones raising the first 6 children, and probably will have to raise these other 8 babies…BUT I am looking at it through the miracle that occurred inside this woman-8 babies from 6…That’s a miracle…

I am sorry if I insult anyone or if I sound like I approve but I am not here to judge her nor the babies just admire this miracle of 6 babies becoming 8…It’s amazing…

Hi Whatevergirl, I actually read a bit of her interview on how she stated she had always wanted a “large” family… AND she didn’t want the last 6 embryos to probably go to waste or be thrown away so she told the doctors, to place them in.

I doubt, the doctors nor her were actually expecting all 6 embryos to attach themselves, because I have read many stories of many parents whom have tried to conceive in this manner and after many trials still no baby is born, they all just let go and “wash out” but this woman-all of them attached themselves and divided-8 babies total! It’s incredible!

I read of another family whom “naturally” had their 8 babies-1 of them died right after birth. They are a lovely African American couple who’s octuplets were born in the year 1998, I believe. And several years later they had one more child I believe in 2002 or 2000 their youngest daughter so they still have 8 children. AND the parents are still married, etc…Miracles…Wonderful blessings you know?!

Now based on her answers that were given on some of the items I read on her, she seems to lie a lot…seems. Because she gave the invitro doctors’ different answers to the questions she gave to the reporters… It’s very interesting not only that but for her to be having so many babies when she’s not even taking care of her first 6 is really sad and I do feel for those 14 children! I wished after I was married to be blessed in such a manner, but I was founded infertile and unable to have more children. Which is very disappointing…

GOD take care of those beautiful little angels…

Actually, adopting is a very difficult process that can cost even more than fertility treatments. There are actually more people waiting to adopt than babies available. Adopting out of foster care has its own risks, as many of the children have severe behavioral issues and it’s often difficult to get parental rights terminated. Not everyone is up for it. I also doubt this woman would meet the requirments to adopt.

Don’t worry… I didn’t take your post as an insult or anything like that. I didn’t realize she had 6 eggs implanted - still too many, apparently, for someone her age. All the same, I would agree that it is a miracle in its own strange way.

Those children are God-given gifts. But I pray that all 14 of them will be able to receive the proper love and support that is needed from one parent. I haven’t been following it much at all lately, but have her parents left her on her own now?

I know, I had read that it should have been no more than 2-4 depending on the history-usually it’s depending on the woman’s history of being able to have children- and they just added all 6 in there… I don’t know but I don’t think those doctor’s should be allowed to be doing such “favors” any more…Yes it’s a strange and wonderful miracle all together…

I too pray that all 14 children are able to receive the proper care and love.

I am not sure I haven’t read up on it lately… I hope they didn’t abandon the children because even though I don’t encourage the woman those children still need all the love they can get and without those grandparents around I doubt those children will be taken care of!! 😦 Very sad…

That is true. I was just discussing adoption with my mother and grandmother yesterday because my husband and I have not been able to have children of our own for a couple of years and we have been thinking of options should it be discovered that there is a problem with me and we really are infertile. (My husband was tested and is fine.) They brought up a family they know who spent close to $50,000 altogether (legal fees, traveling to country, the adoption itself, and other things) to adopt their baby boy. I don’t know how common a price like that is, but I was totally shocked.

I have read it’s mor difficult to adopt then the fertility treatments…wonder why??

I am not sure either but that is incredible!! Maybe if you wouldn’t have to travel outside of the country maybe it wouldn’t be so costly???

I know that since I have been deemed infertile, when we are married, we will have to look into adoption as well…I know my fiance is not up for it, but it’s because he’s hurt knowing I can’t have children but I am sure with discussion and speaking with our priest when the time comes he will come around…

I wish you all the luck in the world…

How is a woman with 6 kids even eligible for fertility treatments?

As a Catholic, I am against IVF, but, even a wholely secular person should support some limits.

I know in some European countries it is illegal to implant more than two embryos. That should be true in the US too.

God Bless

I dunno good question…I asked myself that exact question-how in the world is a single woman-mom of 6 children all under the age of 10-eligible for invitro a second time in the first place???

Dunno…what this world is coming to…

That probably would help. I do know that this couple tried to adopt a child for years from the US, but there were just so many obstacles in the way and they really wanted a child. And they are a good couple and are so wonderful with this child. I hear these obstacles are not unusual, too, which is sad. In a way, I’m happy they just don’t give children to every person that walks off the street, but it shouldn’t be made so difficult that it deters people from wanting to adopt.

As I do to you! :hug1:

I’m hoping that I will have the same problem that my mother had… needing to have ovaries stimulated with fertility drugs. I’m a “Clomed” baby. After me, my mother had no problem getting pregnant again, too, but before that was discovered about her, they were infertile for like 5 years.

Hi iluvmybabies…nice to see you. 🙂

Regardless of the science behind it all…and her reasoning…which I won’t presume to judge…the ultimate issue is that men are slowly being pushed out of the equation…this story infers that the mother here felt that a man isn’t necessary to making a family. Women can do a lot of things…on our own. I’m very independent, but kids need dads. Regardless of the number of embryos, and her desire to want a large family–she seems to not see the need of a dad being in the picture of all this. That is what saddens me.😦

:sad_yes:
Then try adopting! You have to lay bare every aspect of your life and yourself. You have to prove yourself. It’s quite a daunting experience. We have two adopted children which is how we solved the infertility problem.

It’s illegal in Britain because the NHS doesn’t want to pay for twins. It’s not illegal in the U.S because we have private health care and most women need to implant more(like 3 or 4) embryos to achieve a pregnancy. The laws in Europe just aren’t realistic here.

Oh that’s terrible… I understand you just can’t trust a precious child to just anyone but still, there are so many unadopted children it’s not fair for them to be denied a home either…Just because they feel like putting so many obstacles for dedicated parents to achieve…Very sad…

I wished that was all I needed but these doctor’s don’t even give me that hope! It’s really depressing and really hopeless you know?

The crazy part about all this is that I was fertile not that long ago and all of a sudden I am infertile??? Doesn’t make any sense but whatever…I was told by my doctor that PCOS just happened to me recently, but I found out it was actually a genetic disorder passed down from mothers to daughters and even though it’s the highest problem causing infertility I was able to have 3 children and my mother 4 does that make any sense?? It doesn’t to me…

I was told by a lady whom suffers with this as well that even though PCOS does cause fertility problems, that when the time comes all I should need would be ovary treatments, when brought up to my doctor he was like “sure ok” and turned the cheek as if my problem doesn’t even matter…

Again I believe these people believe it’s wrong to have more than 1 child and look the other way when you want a large family…I know it’s not always in God’s will to happen, but let me tell you to go from one day to another from fertile to infertile that kind of gets you thinking you know??? UGH!!

Well seriously though, GOD bless and good luck!

Oh definitely agree with you… Yeah I wasn’t really trying to go into the whole man out of the equation I was just actually communicating that she “always wanted many children” of course she never mentions she wants a husband with the children which of course is devastating but it was just the miracle that from all 6, 8 were born…

I definitely agree with you, families are that, I know that sometimes dad’s aren’t really around-some just leave moms etc, abusive husbands, etc… but the point is that, a family includes a father…and yes it saddens me when 6 fatherless children are being raised by their grandparents because their mother hasn’t been able to do so and now there are 8 more??? HMM…I don’t know how in the world this woman had those doctor’s helping her…

Now, on the flip side…on a more positive note…I think it’s great to see a person so open to life, that she is willing to bear this responsiblity. So, while it seems odd on the one hand, it’s inspiring to a degree. Definitely one of the more unusual stories I’ve read about recently.:o
