Odd host size?

I have recently joined a new parish and I am experiencing an oddity. When I receive the Holy Eucharist I sometimes receive the entire round wafer. But equally as often I am receiving an odd sized Eucharist which appears to be almost triangular and approximating 1/3 of the round Eucharist. I feel silly bringing this up at this time. But the parish does appear to be doing well, and what appears to be an attempt at frugality seems to myself to be odd and not the best means of saving money. Possibly there is a shortage of wafers that I am not aware of? I thought that I would this by you before I mentioned this to our Monsignor. Thank you and God bless!

It sounds like you are simply receiving a piece of the main host that the priest uses for the consecration. During the consecration the priest holds up a large round host. During the Lamb of God that host is then broken into smaller pieces. Those hosts when broken tend to be broken into “small triangles.”

On a different note, your profile says that you are no longer Catholic. If that is true then you should not be receiving communion at a Catholic Mass…
