Anyone’s OF/Novus Ordo parish use the Douay Reims edition for their lectionary and misalette?

Not mine…but isn’t the Lectionary prescribed by the USCCB using the NABRE? I’m not claiming this, just wondering.

My own thoughts are that regardless of which version of an approved bible is proclaimed at the Mass is relatively unimportant, because the faithful are called to be participants and not just observers of the Mass…so, in my mind, participation requires preparation, and the faithful should use whatever approved scripture they prefer in preparation for attending Mass.

But, then again, only an opinion.

Probably not. The USCCB specifies the NAB. “Since May 19, 2002, the revised Lectionary, based on the New American Bible is the only English-language Lectionary that may be used at Mass in the dioceses of the United States, except for the current Lectionary for Masses with Children which remains in use.
The 1970 edition of the New American Bible is used in the Scripture readings and canticles of the Liturgy of the Hours (except the Benedictus, Magnificat, and Nunc dimittis.)”

However, I don’t know if it would be possible for a parish to get an exemption.

Yeah, but could a parish do the perscribed readings, except from the DRE, since its an approved translation? I honestly dont know…

Well, for OF/NO only parishes, at least.

I know the TLM uses the DRE, so OF Masses at TLM parishes may well use the DRE

The General Instruction for the Lectionary requires that only the approved lectionary itself be used; either in the original Latin, or the translation currently approved by the conference of bishops. (see #111)

The Psalms are an exception. The local bishop can approve psalm translations (GIRM #61).

Thank you, Father. I’d never heard of an exception, but that doesn’t prove anything. 🙂

No, the Douay Reims would not be used in a Catholic liturgy.

The text is always prescribed by the USCCB and is most near to the NAB.

She was referring to herself by that comment, not you, Fr David.

I’m not trying to “prove” anything. I’m just answering the question posed to me by explaining what the general instructions say.

I’m curious what you might think I’m trying to prove?
I meant that the fact I’ve never heard of an exception doesn’t prove anything; i.e., my knowledge is not perfect. Hence, the smiley face.

No, because it’s not allowed.

The only English Bible Lectionary allowed in the US in the OF is the NAB based one.

I misunderstood so I deleted my question.
