Is there a good resource that can help me understand all of the different types of Mass? I have seen OF EF TLM mentioned but I have no understanding of what all of that means. I also found a Tridentine (SP?) Rite Church a short distance from my home. I simply do not know what all of these different types of Mass truly mean. I met a man who told me he was Catholic but did not follow Vatican II directives, how is that possible??
It seems as varied as CIA FBI ATF NIS NSA etc. How many of these exist?
10, 20,??? I truly do not know. OF EF TLM ???
I am not looking for or wanting to start an argument here. I only want to expand my knowledge of our faith. Is it part of an “Order” Franciscan? or ??? Again, not wanting or looking for a fight. Just searching for knowledge. Yes, I’m sorry. I have a limited knowledge of my own faith and it’s history. I have begun reading books about our faith and this subject seems fascinating to me if I can find a resource to study.
Thank you in advance for any help,

There is only one Roman Rite, OF and EF are just two expressions of the same Rite.

OF = Ordinary Form (the form of Mass put in place by Pope Paul VI in 1970)
TLM = Traditonal Latin Mass or Extraordinary Form ( the 1962 Latin Mass as last modified by Blessed Pope John XXIII).

does that help?

Texts used in the Roman Rite of Mass

The Roman Missal contains the prayers, antiphons and rubrics of the Mass. Earlier editions also contained the Scripture readings, which were then fewer in number. The latest edition of the Roman Missal gives the normal (“ordinary”) form of Mass in the Roman Rite.[6] But, in accordance with the conditions laid down in the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum of 7 July 2007, the 1962 edition of the Roman Missal, the latest of the editions that give what is known as the Tridentine Mass, may be used as an extraordinary form of celebrating the Roman Rite Mass.

Thank you in advance for any help,
For the EF, the Latin Mass Explained was really helpful to me when I first started out.

If you just want to learn about the Rubrics of the EF, you can go to SanctaMissa.org.

And if you want to see a TLM on YouTube, this is a great one.

Enjoy and please do check out the TLM near your house!

OF = Anglicized acronym of Forma Ordinaria, or the Missal of 1970, or (previously referred to as Novus Ordo Missae)

EF = Anglicized acronym of Forma Extraordinaria, or the Missal of 1962 (also TLM, or Traditional Latin Mass)
