For someone used to the TLM what differences would one notice were he to attend a Latin OF Mass Ad orientem with incense used and gregorian chant?
That it’s not in English? The easiest way to do this is to consider your basic OF Mass at St. Suburbia, said in English, then turn the priest around and have him say the Mass in Latin. Replace hymns with chant, and there you have it.For someone used to the TLM what differences would one notice were he to attend a Latin OF Mass Ad orientem with incense used and gregorian chant?
At my parish EF the priest processes down the aisle as the choir chants the Introit. But your point about the OF Mass in Latin ad orientem is good. Unfortunately most have never heard a Latin OF in person. Many have never heard any Latin at Mass or wouldn’t know what to do if they didn’t see the priest’s lips move.Having been to an OF Mass in Latin, sung, ad orientem etc I can say the above is correct. Also, unlike the TLM, the Priest processes up the aisle rather than walking into the sanctuary from the sacristy. Also, at the TLM the priest recited the Gloria etc to himself and continues on while the schola sings on. At the OF celebrated this way, he sits down and waits for the choir to finish.
That being said, both are equally reverent and great to me! I would take either anyday. I think the OF done this way is inline with V2’s wishes & thus its sad seeing how far we deviated from that.
