On Palm Sunday this year in the Ordinary Form, we hear the story of the Passion of Our Lord from Mark’s Gospel. On Good Friday, as always, we will hear it from John’s Gospel. Each of the Gospel writers has a different style, so I was wondering: do you prefer one account over the other? I, personally, like Matthew’s account of the Passion because he provides a lot of detail, and he also provides material not found in the other Gospels, such as the rising of the saints from their graves after the crucifixion.

Luke

“43 Et dixit illi Jesus: Amen dico tibi: hodie mecum eris in paradiso.”

(And Jesus said to him. Amen I say to you: today you will be with me in paradise.)

All the accounts have something which speak differently at different times.

I love Stainer’s Crucifixion as it draws from all four Gospels for its libretto.

If pushed though - St Matthew’s account.
