Offering in Mass

Hello Catholics,

I attend both forms of the Mass and was just curious to a practice. In the OF of the Mass you will typically hear that the Mass is for the intentions of someone or for someone’s anniversary, or birthday etc. In the EF you don’t hear this but does the Priest offer the Mass for the personal intentions of laity? If they don’t, why not? Thank you.

Hmmm…I just went to a TLM this evening and the Priest mentioned the intentions right before the Homily.

At our EF Mass, the Mass intentions are always in the bulletin and Father also always tells us the intention during the announcements. And, if we see H & S before a person’s name, we know the person is alive and Mass is being offered for his/her health and salvation.

Yes, Masses are offered for specific intentions in the EF also.
On Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation the pastor is required to offer one Mass for the intention of his parishioners. Since we only have one Mass on Sunday, the only time there’s an intention other that the parishioners is when our pastor is away and Mass is being celebrated by a visiting priest.

Yes they offer Mass for the personal intentions of the laity however, they do not always publicly announce it during the Mass. In our parish the person whom the Mass is being celebrated for is listed in the weekly bulletin.

At the FSSP parish I attend, they list the Mass intention (names) in the bulletin.

Our parish will not offer a Mass for any laity on Sundays, only on weekdays.

We only have the OF Mass, no EF Masses on the whole Island.

I’ve seen in the bulletin before that one of my fave Priests says masses on the intention of soandso during weekdays sometimes, but I never went cause I dont know if everyone can attend those “special” masses?

I’ve only belonged to a few parishes where Mass wasn’t usually offered for a special intention. Most parishes list intentions in the bulletin &/or announce them at some point during Mass. Mass is not a private matter, anyone can attend.

Thanks, I will go next time, and see what happens. They probably won’t say nothing
