Offering Mass for someone

If I approach my Priest to offer a Mass for deceased relatives and friends how much money do you usually give? I have no idea what is usual. I am in debt, but have cashflow. Perhaps a range of what is usual? Thanks.

Its usually about $10 and you have to make the arrangements with the parish secretary/office. They are the ones that will tell you what dates can be scheduled for your intention.

It is a donation. At our parish you can have a Mass said and not make a donation. The suggested donation is $10.

I know that at one point there was a donation of $100 for one Mass.

It is up to you if and what to give.

You don’t have to pay. It is an offering made from the generosity of your heart.

If you cannot afford to offer a donation, I am sure that you can still ask the priest to say a Mass for an intention or the soul of a deceased person. Just don’t walk into the parish office with a Starbucks frappe in hand, telling the parish secretary that you can’t afford $10.

It’s also $10 at my parish, and you see the parish secretary to make the arrangements. It is not a tax-deductible donation, since you receive something in return.
