Offering Question regarding Sacraments? How much is normally given to Church & Priest?

Greetings in Christ to all reading,

I am trying to help someone out. They have an older child (over the age of reason)
They will be received into the Church in a traditional Parish.

Question, what is the amount that normally is given to the Church & the offering given to
the Priest doing the Sacraments?
It seems that the child in question will be getting all 3 Sacraments, Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation at once.

What has been your experience with this, what is the right thing to do?

Also, do people normally give the Priest a gift as well?

And if I get invited to the event, do I give 1 gift to the child or 3 gifts?

If you do not attend a traditional Parish, but have an idea, please post your information,

As far as I know, there is no stipend for either the priest or for the parish for the Sacraments of Baptism, First Communion (or any other Communion), and Confirmation. I have never heard of such a thing.
In fact, such a stipend smacks of payment for the Sacraments which is strictly forbidden by Canon Law.
Normally priests receive a small stipend for Weddings and Funerals. The amount varies from parish to parish within a Diocese. It would be less for a Parish in up-State New York than it would be for a Parish in Manhattan.
If you wish to make a donation to the Priest and/or to the Parish, that is entirely another matter. I suggest that you call the Parish office and make an inquiry as to what your local custom is and what are the usual amounts.

I told her that, to call the Parish & speak with the secretary, however
she said that they do not have a secretary and the Priest answers the telephone, she is too shy to ask him directly. She is too shy to even get on this board…
And I understand, because I would be embarrassed as well:o.

I agree with what you posted, but I know that people make a donation/offering, and I
was trying to help her out.

She wants to know what is the right thing to do. A ballpark amount would be nice & helpful to know. She is concerned about being polite in the matter. She is not trying
to buy a Sacrament.

Also, what would be a nice gift to give the child?

So, Megan 7, if the lady is to shy to call, why don’t you do it for her. It would truely be the Christian thing to do
 
If this poor lady is so shy why not ring a parish which is near to this parish; presumably their donation will be the same or similar to the parish at which the child will be baptised. I wonder how such a shy lady manages going to confession? :confused:
 
You give what you can afford.

If you wish to be Protestant about it you could give a tithe which is a tenth of your income.

Where I live, it is not very wealthy, but people will give of their time or what is of great value a tradesman will assist in that way, either by donating his time but sometimes both.
