offering up communion

I hve often read about the saints offering up a holy communion or mass for a special intention. How do you do this? According to the graces recieved through this practice according to the saints, I have various intentions in need of such a powerful form of prayer. Thanks!

You just do it. You tell God, in your own words, “I offer this Mass for ______.” (I usually do this just before Mass or at the time of the Offertory.)

Or “I offer this Communion for _______.” Then receive Communion as lovingly as possible, giving yourself entirely to Jesus who gives Himself entirely to you.

God will take care of the rest.

Not much more anyone can add, but I felt a need to post “something” so the OP didn’t feel ignored. This topic doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

So what are you saying? We can offer up Holy communion for family members who have fallen away from the faith? And does it have to be one member at a time or several? What about the holy souls? Maybe Frdavid get into a little more detail about this practice.

You can offer it for any intention that you believe is in line with God’s will. You can offer it for one person, or for many people, or for all people (e.g., “for the salvation of souls”). You can offer it for the souls in purgatory — for individual souls or family groups or for all of them. You can offer it for the end to abortion, the holiness of marriages and families, or any other issue that concerns you. You can offer it for “all the intentions of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” and you’re pretty much covering every good intention. The merits of Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection — which are made present at every Mass — are infinite, so don’t be afraid to ask for whatever comes to mind. Just pray as the Holy Spirit leads you.

Right, you can offer it up for anyone: living or dead, sinner or holy, anyone at all. One person or many people. Souls in Purgatory? absolutely.

You can also offer it up for any legitimate intention (peace, justice, seasonable weather etc.).

In short, a person can offer up Communion for anyone/anything that we can otherwise pray for.

You might do this right before Mass, anytime during the Mass, or in a prayer of thanksgiving right after the Mass.

Whenever I need to offer up the Communion for a prayer intention, I always do it during the Consecration when there is the short pause after the Body and Blood. Hope this helps.
