Greetings

Concerning the Liturgy of the Hours:

If one prays the Office of Readings at the same time as Morning or Evening Prayer, are some parts of the Office of Readings omitted?

God Bless

I believe the proper way of combining the two Offices is that the Office of Readings is said first and that the hymn of Morning or Evening Prayer may replace that of the Office of Readings. The Collect at the end of the Office of Readings is omitted. The beginning of the Hour to Morning or Evening Prayer (God come to my Assistance… Glory to the Father…) along with the hymn is omitted. The remainder of Morning or Evening Prayer continues as usual.

@gotDoug is correct.

@catholic03: Here is an outline for you
  1. Inventory (if before Morning Prayer) or “God come to my assistance…”
  2. Hymn from Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer (or the Hymn from whichever office you are coupling the Office of Readings with)
  3. PSALMODY from Office of Readings
  4. RESPONSORY after 3rd Psalm from Office of Readings
  5. READINGS from Office of Readings (with their RESPONSORIES)
  6. TE DEUM (when called for by Rubrics for Office of Readings)
  7. PSALMODY from 2nd office (Morning, Daytime, Evening, Night, etc)
  8. READING from 2nd office
  9. RESPONSORY from 2nd office
  10. CANTICLE (if Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer or Night Prayer)
  11. INTERCESSIONS followed by the Our Father (if Morning Prayer or Evening Prayer)
  12. CONCLUDING PRAYER & DISMISSAL from the 2nd Office
The following link is an example of how to Pray the Office of Readings with Lauds (Morning Prayer) on Good Friday
