Does someone here have the psalms and readings for the four week psalter’s office of readings listed down? I’m using a version which only has morning, before noon, noon, after noon, evening and night, it ommitted the office of readins 😦 I wanna be able to look up the office in my bible…

The US edition of Christian Prayer has the two-year cycle of Bible readings at the back. This is universal, and is applicable to you. However, there’s no list of complete non-Biblical readings for the entire year that I’m aware of.

But as stated on the other threads, if you really want to pray the OOR in its entirety, then you must get the 3-volume edition. Otherwise, you can only pray a selection.

I wanna get as close as possible, is there a way you can give this thing to me? I tried figuring it out on universalis, but its incomplete, and it’ll take me a while to get the 4 week psalter’s office of readings.

Note: I’m not looking for non-biblical passages, I can use my library to supplement that part.

Basically what I’m looking for is something like the following:

Monday, week 1: Psalm …
Psalm…
Psalm…
Bible Passage…

Except for the whole 4 week psalter…

Twistedseraph,

If we have the same version, why are you missing these humns and psalms? I have them…

It will take me some time to copy them down from my copy…
I’ll do it tomorrow if i can, i need sleep…

Do you want me to copy them down for you?

Pretty please? I don’t know what version you use, but mine lacks the office of readings. Which is cause for frustration, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night wishing to pray an office, but am left unaided with naught but my beads to comfort me.

You mean your beads don’t console you ??

Would you like my Rosary that was blessed by John Paul in Canada - not not one of the ones that get handed out freely - this is a special one - taken to him by a Friend and put into his hands for blessing. Surely that would console you .

Dear Wannabee,

I couldn’t make you do that 😃 I have a pile that was blessed by him at a Papal Audience. Plus this benedictine cross medal blessed by our German Shepherd (God bless him and keep him).

Thanks however for the offer. May Almighty God grant you many returns on your kindness + (here crosses himself).

Yes my beads do console me, however there is something about praying the psalms that just clicks with me. I haven’t perfected it yet, sometimes I drift in and out of consciousness while praying, but there’s just that sense of unity with the entire Church, and somehow that my prayer benefits the whole Church.

If you have hints on how I can better meditate on the psalms, please post them.

I remain your fellow servant,
Seraph

oh poor untwisted seraph

I have to say I’m somewhat glad you have refused my offer 😃 It would be hard to part with that Rosary I will admit - it’s in my Icon Corner and NEVER leaves the house - it is very special - even I who nowadays very rarely prays the Rosary feels that.

Do you realise that in the East we pray the Psalms in a specific way so that the all of the Psalms are read each week ?

That is how the Romans did it before it was changed in Vatican II. Now we have a four-week psalter, instead of a weekly one.

TwiztedSeraph,
I will get onto it right away. But, it will not come for 1-2 days, since i need to practice my piano.

My teacher will have my head on a platter. I don’t pay $62/hour for nothing, you know.

Thanks very much Nekic my fellow aussie!
What version do you use? Mayhaps I should use it…

Wannabee, I realise that the East does the whole psalter in a week, but I’m kinda attached to my western rituals 😃 Beauty in simplicity.

Which version?
I thought there was only one for use in UK, Ireland, Australia, and the rest of the Commonwealth…

How do i check?

If you live in Sydney, go to Pauline Books and Media on Castlereigh St. I took the last copy on the shelf, but they should have some more somewhere.

Ah, the infamous one-volumed version.
Unless i am most definately mistaken, that is not the Divine Office, but the Book of Christian Prayer. It does not have the Office of Readings at all.

The three-volumed version of the Divine Office is very expensive, but worth the purchase. The nice lady in the bookstore took off the GST for me by putting the purchase under the name of my Parish Prebytery (sp?). Very funny.

Oh, and i’m still going with that list.
