Can anyone tell me the difference between the publication “Catechism of the Catholic Church” and “United States Catholic Catechism for Adults”?

The one to pay attention to is the Catechism of the Catholic Church, released by the Church in 1997.

You can buy it bound into book form, or you can find it online.

At the Vatican Website: vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/_INDEX.HTM

Or in handy searchable form: scborromeo.org/ccc.htm

There is also a Compendium which makes the Catechism easier and faster to use:
vatican.va/archive/compendium_ccc/documents/archive_2005_compendium-ccc_en.html

That can also be bought bound into book form, and the two book are really all you ever need in the way of a Catechism. They’re very, very good, and approved by Rome.

I think the other one is put out by the USCCB and I don’t know how easy it is to read or how informative. I’ve never needed a copy because the ones above are so good.

When the Catechism came out in 1992, the Pope urged that local catechisms be developed to better address specific situations in different countries. In the US, the result was the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults.

I like the USCCA. It’s more readable than the main version. We give it to our candidates and catechumens in RCIA so they’ll have it to refer to as questions come up in the future.

I am looking for a good online study course and have been referred to Notre Dame Institute for Church Life’s STEP (Satellite Theological Education Program). I am really just starting out on learning about my faith. I have been a Catholic all my life but never studied the Catechism. The above course requests each student to purchase a copy of the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults as part of the course material, and I wasn’t sure why the course would not study from the original Catechism text. Does anyone know about this course and if it is worthy? If it is just for beginners I may be in the right place, however if it is not accurate teaching I don’t want to get started. Has anyone got any experience of this course or does anyone have an suggestions for a good online beginners catechism/Bible study course for Catholics?

The course is for teachers, I work in a catholic school, but don’t teach.

Seeking Gods direction.

Yep:

I have both and have read both.

The USCCB 4 Adults is an American Bishops Approved catecheism for Americam Adults.

It is FAR easier to read the than is the CCC [International version]

he CCC was issued primarily for Bishops, priest, teachers as a REFERENCE book.

It can be found at:http://www.scborromeo.org/ccc.htm

And the USCCB 4 Adults can as far as I know is not yet on the web? One can purchase it through the www. usccb.org web site.

It’s not on the web. The only electronic version I see is a Kindle version from Amazon.

It doesn’t look like the USCCB gives stuff away.

The Catechism of The Catholic Church is the official Catechism of The Catholic Church. I don’t know where the US Catholic Catechism is from.

Too many people forget this. They forget that the CCC is, above all, a reference for the teachers of the teachers. The bishops conferences were tasked with putting together teaching catechisms for their own countries.

I can’t thank you all enough, this is so helpful. I am loving this Catholic Answers Forum!

Blessings upon you.

But local Catechisms cannot disagree with or teach anything different from the CCC, albeit they can express the teachings in their own way to make it easier to understand.

Why not just go to the official source, The Catechism of The Catholic Church! Or, the YOUCAT for younger people, it is also an offcial publication of The Magisterium.
