Her comment, “Oh give me a break!”, could very well have been frustration at what she might have perceived of as an excuse from you not do do something that would help your situation.

Have you been rebuffing suggestions to improve your situation with other people? Besides on CAF, I mean. Sometimes people lose patience with that sort of thing.
It amazed me that you came up with this conclusion! LOL How people see different things.
Believe me, she did not mean anything other than scoff at the fact I was a Catholic again.

Oh! I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that you had reverted to Catholicism. Some non-Catholic Christians have a serious problem with the Catholic Church.

I was only wondering because I know how frustrating it is to try to help someone who isn’t committed to moving forward. Or, will only move forward in a manner that they have already decided upon (even if other solutions would be productive and helpful).

In any case, since jobs in your field of expertise are difficult to find right now, can you enroll in a college program that could get you a job in a new field within a relatively short period of time?

I’m asking because I am starting a college pre-apprenticship course (HVAC) which is much in demand in my area. I’m 46, hardworking, etc. and need to change careers because landscaping simply does not provide me with the year round employment that I would like. Turns out, too, this program would allow me to earn considerably more money as an entry level employee.

So, maybe you could make a lateral move. Maybe it would just be temporary until jobs in your field open up. At least it would be a move for the future instead of dwelling in the unpleasantness of your current situation.

She grew up a Catholic too. But she is an Evangelical since the 1980s.
I will get back to your questions later.

Oh, by the way, I WAS TURNED DOWN BY A CATHOLIC SCHOOL for a part time job I was clearly qualified for. What a shame. The white middle aged man doesn’t have a chance in this country.
It’s possible that it wasn’t that you are a white middle aged man, but maybe your frame of mind at the moment doesn’t recommend you for a job. Peoples inner disposition is radiated hence people having a gut feeling about another. Perhaps you could do some inner and spiritual work on that and see if you notice a change?

I doubt it. I am told I am a very personable individual. It’s that I am a white middle aged man, trust me. White middle aged men are the new victims of discrimination. Trust me on this. Society is okay with it. Do some research on the subject. You will see.

And what makes you think I have not been doing serious inside spiritual work? Why would you assume I haven’t?

I guess I am not understanding what exactly she did wrong? I know people who work for Catholic Churches who are not catholic. I know catholic people who work for other churches. I personally worked in a Jewish synagogue for over a year with the preschool children. Did I embrace the religion, yes. After all Jesus was Jewish. Did it change my beliefs NO.

Maybe she should have not reacted that way and been a bit more understanding and opened the conversation to include your reservations about her suggestion.

Not so amazing since I thought the same thing.

I don’t know why race has to come into it. I am sure people - black, yellow, brown, green, have been discriminated against at some time or another.

Maybe you should have taken that job and been a witness to your faith.

And don’t forget us Martians , we also get discriminated against,
Just because we have cranium antennae , people plug us into power sockets thinking we give better F M. Radio reception…
