I seem to remember Father Corapi telling a story of a saint, perhaps St. Teresa of Avila, who saw the devil one night and said, “Oh, it’s just you,” and rolled back to sleep. Anyone remember who was this saint? Is there a link to the story from the saint’s bio perhaps?

I remember him saying that…I listen to him any chance I get…don’t know what the link might be 🤷 The saint was Teresa of Avila…my patron, as you said at the beginning of your post. You are correct. I am familiar with a few of her quotes as she is my patron.👍

Thank you. If anyone has a link to where this story can be found, perhaps a biography or writing of hers… I can’t find anything! Thx.

It was St. John Vianney, the curé of Ars. The story is told that he heard violent noises at night outside the gate but when he looked out to see what was going on, he saw nothing but the freshly fallen snow with no trace of footprints. “Oh, it’s just Old Scratch (le grappin, the devil)”, he said, and went back to bed.

St. John Vianney also referred to Satan as an “old pickpocket” or was that St. Theresa de Avila?🤷 Anyway, he used to comment that a particularly bad night with le grappin meant a big conversion for someone the next day, usually in the Confessional. Someone that hadn’t been to Confession in 30 plus years for example. He had people that would spend the night with him, and tell of Satan’s antics and his reaction or lack thereof.

Sorry, I don’t know more about the particular story you are seeking. But Satan in the Modern World, is a fascinating read on St. John Vianney. I canot get the underline to stop.😊 HAhahaha … I really can’t, it’s stuck or something. Wel,l good luck.

Probably not. A lot of these anecdotes get transferred from saint to saint, and the question of authenticity tends to get lost in the mist of times. But they are still good stories!😃

Another story attributed to St. Teresa has her on the can doing that most basic of human functions. As usual, she is praying. Along comes the Devil to mock her about praying whilst engaged in this activity. Her alledged reply is “What comes out of my mouth is intended for God, and what comes out the other end is intended for you,”

I’ve heard that story told about a number of different people, including several well-known Protestants. I’ve gotten to the point that when I hear someone start that story, I get my saltshaker out.

When I read your post, the first person that came to my mind was Padre Pio, doesn’t that sound like something that would have happened to him?

EXACTLY!!! What we may have is a case of a stolen story (or they all said this…)…I was thinking about starting a new thread to see if the good detectives at the CAF can piece this one together. Luther is the Protestant I had in mind. So far, we have Luther, St. John Vianney, and St. Teresa of Avila…

And some grab at straws to get a point.
satin used to say to St Vianney “Vianney Vianney the eater of potatoes”. St Vianney as far as I remember did say, “Oh! it’s only you!” to satin.

I’ve never heard this story about Luther, but I have heard that one point he threw an inkwell at the devil.

This is not something that will ever happen to me. I’m not high enough on the radar screen to merit a personal visit from Old Scratch.

Anyway, nowadays he’s hard to recognize. Too many other three-piece suits and $400 haircuts.
