I’m not sure if anyone already mentioned this. The other night, a commercial came on featuring Jackie Chan. He was “coming out of the closet to fight for equality. Support the LGBT community.”:confused:

i guess my issue is another celebrity falling for what is socially acceptable… Still love his movies though.

Just another person lost in our society’s latest whim. Sad too, because I’m generally a fan of his movies…

He was always very entertaining; has a lot of on-screen charisma. I love the outtakes at the ends of his movies.

With respect to his statement - I do notice stars are more likely to say things like this when their careers are safely past their peak. He’s made a ton of money; apparently used quite a bit of it for philanthropic purposes. According to Wikipedia he is Buddhist.

He actually says “I am coming out of the closet as a friend for those fighting for equality.” In other words, it’s not a declaration that he’s gay. But yeah, it’s unfortunate that he’s jumped on the politically correct bandwagon.

that was it. i was paraphrasing. 😛 i just remember hearing his voice when the commercial came on, (I was playing Candy Crush) thinking it was a new movie or tv series. oh well.

I checked the video just long enough to confirm that it showed him literally exiting a closet. At least he stayed in his established persona.

He’s a great entertainer, but like most stars probably not the deepest thinker out there. It’s probably not a show-stopper for Jackie Chan, but from what I have read, the Buddhist religion does not consider homosexuality “equal” either. So he’s kind of going against his faith, if he is indeed a Buddhist. I realize most pop stars don’t think deeply about this, so … what can we do, except realize what is really going on: he is basically standing up as a “witness” of his faith in pop culture, in this pop concept of declaring all choices equally good. We need to understand our faith and think through the issue enough so that we too can be witnesses for OUR faith, the true faith in Jesus Christ which He paid so dearly for us to enjoy.

This is indeed a bit disappointing, although I don’t think many people in the English speaking world consider Jackie Chan to be much of a role model (don’t know about China or Hong Kong, though). It strikes me as more of an attention-grabbing stunt than anything really worth getting upset over.

Who really cares? Just like Jason Collins, it is irrelevant and meaningless to any of us. He is an actor, who I will never meet, and will have no effect on my life. I like some of his movies, and this will have no affect on that. Good for him, he’s gay, who cares.

LOL he’s not gay himself haha oh well thanks for the chuckle.

Saying that most stars aren’t the deepest thinkers out there is a big judgement. You’d be surprised by how intelligent they can be. They are just like the rest of us.
