St. Thomas More pray for us!

This is terrible news! We must pray and pray hard. As others have said, Christ is with us.

I’ve never voted before, but I’m definately voting in the next General Election. We need to rid ourselves of the Labour Government. They have forced the closure of Catholic Adoption Agencies over the homosexual issue, and they are now going to force us to hire active homosexuals. This cannot continue. We have a right to practice our religion and we have a right to conduct ourselves and our institutions according to our beliefs and morals. This government interference must stop.

Hmm… this’ll be fun to watch… 🍿

Ironically Yours, Blade and Blood
A flippant response “B and B”. :ehh: I think we should put away the popcorn, and pray. This is a very serious topic. It could have a grave impact on freedom. God bless.

MarieVeronica, I’m Agnostic; I don’t pray. I just sit back on my star-studded fence and watch the show where no conflict exists; I find it very interesting that you see this as an impact on freedom. How are you protecting freedom and marriage by restricting it to others?

Ironically Yours. ❤️

This is an attack on freedom because the government is geting involved with the internal affairs of the church. As I posted above, where is the separation of church and state now? The debate on marriage is in the public square, where all are allowed to debate their opinions. This is different though because now we are talking about the government getting involved with the way the church is being run. What’s next, will the governement begin to tell the priests what they can and can not say from the pulpit? Maybe they think what the priest is saying is “hateful.” The secularists don’t want religion in their public schools, well that’s fine. Catholics should not be sending their children to public schools anyway. But that blade cuts both ways. The governemnt has no business involving itself in the affairs of the church. The Catholic Church just wants to be left alone to run itself the way it sees fit. I do not believe that is too much to ask. Thanks for the question though.

:rotfl: Now… I promise this has nothing to do with you, but I am astonished how members of Christianity generally dislike the separation of Church and State unless it favors them… I’m sorry, you just reminded of that.

But to the whole “marriage in the public square” thing… that’s kind of the problem; even people within the Church don’t mind gay marriage. 🤷 And as the generations go by, gay marriage will be more and more accepted. 🙂 Times change and some beliefs do become obsolete.

I’m not very fond of hysterical websites like LifeSiteNews (regardless of whether I agree with their opinion), so for those who are interested in a secular source for this story:

telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/5357247/Law-will-force-churches-to-employ-gay-staff.html

Each seem to say essentially the same thing, but it helps having secular sources in our cache in case we talk about this issue with nonbelievers or other skeptics and critical thinkers.

I’m appalled (but not surprised) by this potential law. Just another reason why I’m proud to be American and so grateful for our constitution. Something like this would never pass court muster. Our supreme court has consistently protected the rights of churches as explicitly stipulated in the Establishment Clause.

I’ll be adding the English Parliament to my prayers tonight, I encourage everyone else follow suit.

B&B, it would serve you well to actually read the article (or if you prefer, read the article from the Telegraph which I posted).

This has nothing to do with same-sex marriage and everything to do with the British Parliament dictating to churches against whom they may discriminate concerning church employment.

Is there any legal actions that can be taken against this? There should be a sort of a ‘supreme court’.

If it comes to this, it should be stated in the contract when hiring anyone, that they should never say or teach and publicly support positions against the catholic teachings, and if they do, they will be banned from any catholic institute - something legal…

Times do change but truth never changes. The Catholic Church IS truth and therefore must never change with the times. It is bad enough that the world is going insane and losing it’s values. But this must not happen within the Church or all will be lost. This is more vital than I can put into words, the souls of a billion Catholics are quite literally on the line.

The early Christians lived in a time when they had, literally, no political power whatsoever. They were persecuted, their very lives were at stake, but this was a time of enormous richness for the Church.

I don’t want this legislation to pass and, if given an opportunity will do everything I can. Write letters, vote, sign petitions, whatever. But I will not despair if it DOES pass. The Church, instituted by Christ, is stronger than any government, any political power.

Salvation comes from obeying the commands of Christ and living in His grace. He will always gives us a means to obey Him and to be saved.

I’m afraid the Catholic Church has changed a bit with the Times. If the Church didn’t try to be a little mainstream, then it would have been left behind decades ago.

I’d give you more of my two cents, but I think I’ll leave it at that. 🙂

Pardon me, but we’re all sinners…I can understand if it’s someone convicted of harming a person, but what’s wrong with hiring homosexual people as long as they keep their sex lives to themselves?
After all, anybody teaching to youth has to keep their sex lives to themselves anyways, so I don’t see the problem.
Now, I do see the problem in being FORCED to hire them.

The problem arises in where we allow government to dictate what is and isn’t an “integral part of church polity”. When a church gets its hands dirty in a secular industry or commodity (such as health care or education) then yes, such an enterprise does not constitute an integral part of polity and a church shouldn’t be given a free pass at discriminating against who they treat/educate or who they hire for such secular positions.

A “youth leader” or a catechetical instructor is arguably, though indirectly, a part of church polity yet the British Parliament is being asked to rule these to be tantamount to the rendering of a secular service.

Churches should be allowed to refuse employment as a church instructor or youth leader due to orientation, faith, marital status, etc.

Not only that, but these ‘legislators’ act as if homosexuals are just meat, with no immortal souls to guard and protect. By applauding their sins, by mandating their sins, they help to stain their immortal souls

Holy Mother Church will stand her ground. We can count on that. But we still have to pray for the Church in Britain that it won’t be compromised or damaged by these new laws.

All sinners are equal, but apparently some sinners are more equal than others.

Oh, there are homosexuals active in your parishes and schools.

You just don’t know who they are, that’s all.
This little guy here doesn’t get the CONCEPT.
There’s NOTHING wrong with homosexuals active in our parishes and schools,
if he/she obeys the simple rule.
  1. NO sex outside NORMAL marriage.
that’s all. It applies for everyone whether u are homosexual or heterosexual.

Meaning if the heterosexuals are committing sex outside marriage, it’s just as same as homosexual act.

Now, why when the Church doesn’t allow heterosexuals to have sex outside Church, the politicians never forced the Church to accept does who are actively committing premarital sex into Her office but want to force the active homosexuals in?

The point is, in the USA we have the Establishment Clause to prevent such a thing from happening. The government can’t interfere with out churches in such a way, nor can our churches take control of our government. That’s not to say they can’t have an affect on one another in various ways, but such blatant interference is forbidden by the Constitution.
Thank you for saying this.

Thank you for the news link. I agree with you about the often dubious quality of LifeSite’s reporting, but in this case they basically got it right. In another thread about this topic, I quoted the religious exemption that is currently in the Equality Bill and it does say that the exemption only applies to those who lead religious ceremonies and those who are involved in teaching doctrine. The bill specifically says that the position of youth leaders (and accountants) are not exempt.

OR persecuted… because She stands Her ground. :nope: I agree with “phoenix”. We must pray for the Church in Britain. If any of the above happens “across the pond”… how much longer could it be… before happening here?
