Was watching CBS news. I just don’t know why I expect better. The tease on the other side of the break was a camera roll of the inside of the Sistine Chapel. Scott Pelley said something like " The most beautiful polling place."

Should have known. I said to myself “How can they make this bad?”

Oh they figured it out. Before they even got to the vids of the Sistine Chapel they went over their latest news on American Catholics.

The poll, conducted among a random sample of 580 Catholic adults from Feb. 23-27, showed a groundswell of support among U.S. Catholics for a more modern church in general: A majority said the Catholic Church is out of touch with the needs of its members.

Oh my…

580 adults? Dang that is definitively representative.

Here are the highlights-
54% want a change to a more liberal teaching
83% of them think that it is possible to dissent from papal and Church teaching
78% will follow their own conscience on serious moral issues without regard to Church tradition.
91% said the next Pope should favor the use of condoms to help stop HIV
71% said he should favor artificial methods of birth control.
69% said that priests should be able to get married, and the same number said women should be able to become priests.

I don’t say it much but What the Crud?

Thats not it. If you are looking for penance feel free…

Yeah, that’s pretty much why I don’t watch any of the evening news shows. Once the local news is over, its time for Jeopardy.

What most people don’t realize about polls is that you can get almost any results you want from polling. It all depends on how you word the questions. Considering the liberal secularist bias of the major networks, what results do you think there would be? I will bet they neglected to ask if the Catholics they polled went to Mass every Sunday.
Don’t forget, there are a lot of people who identify themselves as Catholic, but only see the inside of a Catholic Church on Christmas and Easter, if that often.

I don’t know what most here think of Michael Voris of ChurchMilitant.TV but he released one of his Vortex videos within a day or so of Benedict XVI’s announcement of his abdication and warned that exactly this kind of “reporting” is what we should expect from our anti-Catholic, bigoted media until the next pope is elected. This confirms that most American Catholics think that the Church should become like the dysfunctional disaster some of us helped create in Washington D.C. and that she is somehow a democracy. This is the Americanism that Pope Leo XIII warned about in 1899 (!) in his encyclical *Testem Benevolentiae Nostrae, *from which, a quote:

The underlying principle of these new opinions is that, in order to more easily attract those who differ from her, the Church should shape her teachings more in accord with the spirit of the age and relax some of her ancient severity and make some concessions to new opinions. Many think that these concessions should be made not only in regard to ways of living, but even in regard to doctrines which belong to the deposit of the faith. They contend that it would be opportune, in order to gain those who differ from us, to omit certain points of her teaching which are of lesser importance, and to tone down the meaning which the Church has always attached to them. It does not need many words, beloved son, to prove the falsity of these ideas if the nature and origin of the doctrine which the Church proposes are recalled to mind. The Vatican Council says concerning this point: “For the doctrine of faith which God has revealed has not been proposed, like a philosophical invention to be perfected by human ingenuity, but has been delivered as a divine deposit to the Spouse of Christ to be faithfully kept and infallibly declared. Hence that meaning of the sacred dogmas is perpetually to be retained which our Holy Mother, the Church, has once declared, nor is that meaning ever to be departed from under the pretense or pretext of a deeper comprehension of them.” —Constitutio de Fide Catholica, Chapter iv.

The quote within the quote is from one of the documents of the FirstVatican Council. I encourage everyone to read this encyclical from one of our greatest popes.

I’m 61, my wife is 61, my Mom is 85, my sister is 58, I have 4 children 30 some cousins and it goes on and on and none of us has ever been polled. I use to get so worked up. I just don’t believe anything I hear or see on TV any more. I’m just going to keep on praying

This is a prime example of why the Church is NOT a democracy. The majority does NOT always know what’s best.

That’s really all we can do!
