Oil of St John the wonder worker

I received this in the mail, and I don’t know why. I must be on some mailing list somewhere.

It seems he is an Orthodox Saint. I read a bit of his biography and it sounds very nice and he is incorrupt in a Cathedral in San Francisco. He is also called St.John of Shanghai and San Francisco.

What do I do with this oil…I am Roman Catholic, not Russian orthodox. Can I use this oil for the intended uses, praying and blessing oneself etc…

I researched it on the internet and got conflicting advice. If no, what do I do with it?

Do what ever you wish. It is prayer and intent that works wonders, not the oil that is sent in hopes of a donation for what is probably veg. oil. Peace.

How did you come to the conclusion that the oil was sent in hopes of a donation?
The OP didn’t say the sender was seeking a donation.

I have been on several Catholic mailing lists since donating to simply 2 charities that are Catholic. I received a plastic rosary once with a suggested 10.00 donation, I have received Catholic medals with a suggested donation etc. Any time I have personally received some token as such without ordering it myself it came with a letter asking my consideration for a donation. I have also received letters from charities I’ve never heared of with no “gift” asking for donations as well. Some of these charities must sell your name.

I am not stating that’s the case with the OP but it’s the usual scenario when one receives something "free’ in the mail in my experience.’

My husband says throw it out.

But since is an oil from a lamp next to the Orthodox saints incorrupt body, I don’t know if this is a good idea, nor do I know if keeping it is a good idea either. This saint seems powerful in Orthodox religion and my research states that he is a mystic, and performed many miracles too.

I don’t know any Russian Orthodox or I would give it to them.

It did come with a donation card in case I wanted to send money.

I f it’s genuine then use it as intended…it doesn’t matter if it’s from an Orthodox saint…they are still Christians…if you had some Holy Water from Lourdes would you not offer it to bless a sick friend even if they were not Catholic.
