. Catholic Church 70 AD eventually = Protestant denomination [specifically Independant Fundamental Baptist

] haha (pun in case noone gets it)
Hopefully I explained my thought process clearly.
I think that would be fair to accept no?
this brings up whole issue of eschatological views. Augustinians see Church history as one big field of gray, good and bad mixed equally, gradually maturing until the harvest. I don’t see it this way. I don’t think wheat and tares parable trumps the primary apoc data which is the days of creation and the beast.
You see, in the Old Testament progression of salvation, it wasn’t a gradual ascent. It was down and up, down and up. That is, first comes major sin, then comes major Redemption. First the fall and general wickedness of Noahs day. Then the redemption of the Flood. Then Babel, with the selfish pursuit of dominion, then the confounding of languages and calling of Abraham. Then Egypt enslaves, then God delivers His People into their own Kingdom. Then they fall into sin and away from Old Cov, then comes the chastisement of Babylon followed by the restoration to Holy Land and Cov. Then came the OT Antichrist Antiochus, followed by, ultmiately first coming of Christ.
In Church history, I believe it’s the same thing: just as God confounded languages and divided man into separate nations at Babel and called ONE nation among many through Abraham, so at Pentecost, God calls MANY natoins into ONE kingdom, the Catholic Church, through the gift of tongues and Ultimate Cov of Christ.
and just as after Abraham, the Jews are persecuted by Egypt, so the Church is persecuted by Rome. But the Church is delivered, as were the Jews, and there is the glorious establishment of Catholic Christendom. But just as the Jews came out of Egypt kicking and screaming, and just as they kicked and screamed their way out of the Old Cov, so the Gentiles came into Catholicism kicking and screaming, and,
BEGINNING with Protestantism, they have kicked and screamed their way out of it. Now all but fully apostate ideologies reign in Europe and her children. But, lo, the Catholic prophets predict a chastisement, analogous to Babylon, in which the Gentiles get a taste of their own medicine for forsaking Catholicism totally, and after it’s through, there is the glorious reunion of Christians (a type of the reunion of the Israel in Judah in Ezekiel), followed by the Restoratin of Catholic Christendom, just as the Jews were chastised and restored to God.
Finally, after the great restoratoin in the coming age of peace, there will occur the great apostasy and NT Antichrist ,followed by the SECOND coming of Christ.
So, no, Salvation history may be a progression in revelation, which is true, but it is up and down in terms of the prevalance of righteousness.
So in reality, the development of doctrine is found in Catholicism. What is happening outside of Catholicism is not development but DECLINE. Look at the facts from Catholic view:
In Catholicism, the following are the sources of Divine Truth, ranked in terms of their reliablity:
I. The Trinity and Incarnation
II. The Papacy
III. The General Collection of Bishops and Oral Tradition
IV. The Written Tradition (Scripture)
V. Reason
Look at history: these sources of divine truth are the victims of heretical attack as we follow the great disturbances to Catholic doctrinal development: the first wave of heresies upon Church freedom mainly attack some aspect(s) of the Trinity or Incarnation (culminatng with Islam).
The next great attack was the great schism (which appropriately attacks the next rung in the ladder, the Pope).
The next great attack was Protestantism , which conveniently continues the pattern: attack the rest of Bishops and Oral Tradition, retaining only [most of] Scripture.
the next great assault was the Enlightenment, which still fits the pattern: attack even Scripture and retain only “reason” as source of religion.
