I am 66 years old.I have been dealing with a prolonged grieving period. I also am recovering from major surgery. I have had overwhelming temptations to masturbation. I know it is wrong to indulge in this, but the flesh is weak from time to time. I am NOT looking for excuses, and I am beginning to regain control through prayer and meditation.

In my last confession the priest tole me I had a condition and I needed to address this issue. I understood that he was telling me that I am not commenting mortal sin because of this condition, that I did not have moral culpability for this.

I have been to a grief workshop and a christian therapist on this issue. I now know that all the other issues with grief have been dealt with and the therapist felt that once I get back to work I should regain the control over my body I am so desperately seeking.

I believe in my mind that it is ok to receive the eucharist as I have not committed a mortal sin, but in my heart, I just am not so sure. Please advise.

Your confessor should be making the determination whether or not you are culpable for mortal sin. It sounds like you aren’t, but I would go to confession before mass nonetheless.

God bless, and I hope you continue to recover in your many difficulties. You’ll be in my prayers.

I will today. I really didn’t expect such a quick response. Thank you.

you have already received pastoral counsel from a priest in confession. there is absolutely nothing anyone here can or should add to that.

God Bless You. Your not a sinner, just in a bad situation that your taking care of.🙂

You conscience is telling you something here. Be sure to go to confession before receiving the Eucharist.

A well formed conscience has two part, mind and heart. Developing a well formed conscience takes a lifetime, and priests are charged with helping guide it.

You’re mind and priest are telling you one thing. Your heart is telling you another. Two-to-one here (not that the soul is a democracy!).

If you can get to confession go: it can only make you feel better.

If you can’t then listen to what your priest said.

Prayers said!

Do confession traditionally with Priest then afterwards ask God directly for forgiveness, I found this most peaceful.

Yah try to work on it and don’t beat yourself up about it. find what makes you happy so that by finding true happiness you are content in yourself and confident about who are and at the same time expose yourself to remedying things as much as possible so that you can wean yourself off of it. Go to confession before you receive eucharist if you think you are in need and if you cant go to confession at least go up to get a blessing which shows God where your true intentions lie.

I am not allowing myself any other attitude but a positive and hopeful one. The evil one love it when we beat ourselves up. I won’t give in to that.

When my Fran went home to God 7 years ago, she took everything I had with her. She was very sick those last years, We were married 32 years. I gave her my whole heart and all of myself to her. I hare been lost without her. When I looking back, I would do everything the same way, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Now, I am starting to rebuild myself. I have given every thing I am to God. I love Him and He has helped me so much. With all your help here, and remembering more what was said in that confession, I now feel a lot better. For the past 7 years, my heart was numb. Now my heart has awakening and it will take time to adjust to it. My emotions are a little out of focus for me now, but getting better day by day.

God bless you all.

Jim

I went to confession Sat. and was assured that I can receive the eucharist. I just can’t quite trust my heart yet, but will still listen to it. This is one more step in a long journey to rebuild myself.

I do feel much better. I receive the eucharist at mass on Sunday and I really am at peace with myself. I will rest and just enjoy it. I will grow closer to God and be alright.

Any time I have a question, I won’t hesitate to ask for your help. You have been so much help to me.

God bless you and have a happy holy new year.
