Ok to remove a scapular?

Should I remove my scapular while showering and working out to keep it clean? I’ve read that Saint Claude de la Colombière taught that those in sin would die at moments when their scapular war removed. If I’m ever in a state of serious sin, should I keep the scapular on 24/7, or continue to take it off as I usually do when it may get wet?

As wearing the Scauplar is a private devotion and is only a symbol of one’s enrollment, I believe it would be okay to remove it for bathing and the like.

It’s not the scapular itself that has any magical powers, so as long as your heart is in the right place you should be good to go.

It’s kind of like the novena question: if I miss a day of a novena, do I have to start over? The answer is: no, you can pick up where you left off, because God knows your intention and understands your effort. That’s the same faith we have to have when we wear - or remove - the scapular.

Yes, you may take it off. The purpose of the scapular is a reminder of your promises/commitment. It is not a magic charm. Taking it off for showering or swimming is perfectly acceptable. What is not is using it like a charm–only wearing it when you think you’ll be ‘in danger’. Or wearing it without fufilling your promises to prayer and penance.

i wear the green scapular and i only remove it for showering…usually the promises for the different scapulars are still granted if you wear them or if for some reason you can’t wear it if have them in your possesion (like in your bag, in your room etc)…

if you keep it in the bathroom when you are showering then put it back on when you are finished…then that should be fine…

if you are worried then just wear it in the shower and then dry it off when you dry yourself
