Wow. I am blown away by all the responses. I never expected to receive so many.

I really just wanted to reach out and say hello. I think sometimes Protestants judge Catholics wrongly, and I wanted someone to know we are not all like that.

I have no desire to become Catholic. I like my denomination of Christianity. I also have no desire to convert anyone who is Catholic to Protestantism.

I’m simply saying hi. Have a wonderful and blessed day! I love you all.
I was satisfied and liked my Protestant non-denomination also. I was just checking out the miracle of the sun at Fatima Portugal in 1917. One thing led to another the more I learned about the Catholic faith the more I realized how scriptural it was.

Dear Singpeace: I started commenting and forgot to say welcome to the forum. Hope you stay will us! Keep asking questions. You will get a gamut of replies. 🙂

All very good points. Now I want to be candid, in light of your posting and of my own conversion. I am convinced in the power of the Eucharist, the authority of the Church, and the historical witness that continues to persevere in the world. But I have to say, many mistakes have been made, and are being made by the Church which, were it not for the Protestants, would have destroyed the Church from within. Sorry if that ruffles a few feathers, but that’s how I see it.
When Jesus said :
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
He said that the gates of the netherworld would not prevail against the Church…this implies that there is some conflict, but that the Church would **ultimately **prevail in the conflict!

The Church is made of men, all of which are imperfect, some of which are scoundrels. The Teachings of the Church being infallible does not mean that the men of the Church are impeccable. Yes, mistakes are made, men continue to sin, else why would we need a Savior?

SingPeace,

Welcome to CAF.

I’m certain that you understand our enthusiasm. It is probably not much different than yours when a new face walks into your church.

Hopefully, you will find the answers that you seek. As to our faith, the Catechism of the Catholic Church is the authoritative source.

In the words of Bishop Fulton Sheen:
There are not a hundred people in America who hate the Catholic Church. There are millions of people who hate what they wrongly believe to be the Catholic Church — which is, of course, quite a different thing.
Foreword to Radio Replies Vol. 1, (1938) page ix
Thank you for wanting to find out the Truth of the Church.

Okay. I’m new here, and I am Protestant. I’ve been reading/skimming through a lot of threads/posts, and it’s obvious to me I’m in a whole new ball park.

However, I wanted to put this out there - what I believe with all my heart. I hope not to offend anyone here.

I believe that Catholics and Protestants worship and serve the same God and believe in the same Savior, Jesus Christ. I believe we simply have different traditions; though I know I am over-simplifying things a bit. Catholicism is something I have never studied so a lot of things I read are a bit confusing to me. That said, I just wanted to make it clear that in my own personal private view; all who believe Jesus is the Son of God, was born of the Virgin Mary, gave his life on a cross for the sins of the world, and rose on the third day; having defeated death and the grave are brothers and sisters in Christ.

I hope that in this forum I might glean some profitable knowledge about the Catholic faith as well as share what I know of my own.

I hope you all will be patient with me as I crawl then hopefully walk at ease through the threads and posts here.

BTW, I have been a minister for 20 years. I hope I am able to be somewhat of an asset as I humbly seek your guidance in my learning more about the Catholic faith.

God bless you all and thank you again for allowing me to post here.
I believe the Church teaches pretty much what you are saying also.

Our big differences are on the Sacraments I believe.
