I don’t know–we have a visiting priest who comes by every so often and he wears white socks part of the time. I know I shouldn’t notice this, but it always catches my attention.

I’m thinking my priest is okay as far as money goes, but now I am doubting whether or not I should have gotten him what I did.

The priest at our parish asked that we give him the gift of service. Instead of buying him something he asked for volunteers with the homeless ministry, or the adopt a family program, or helping with cleaning and greeting strangers.

I’m sorry if I came on too strong. . . he’ll probably be very touched by your sharing of that spirituality that you have recently acquired . . . and you never know, he probably will use it personally or use it to instruct another seeker . . . The statue is great. It is orginal, not a ton of rosaries or “typical” statues-type things. GIVE IT TO HIM.

My priest recently told us that he couldn’t wait for his birthday (Dec. 19) and for Christmas because he wanted gifts and cards to open! He also said he weighed 220 pounds. Subtle hint! So for his birthday I made a donation in his name to Heifer.org. For Christmas I bought him a coin proof set for the year he was born (1959). Thank God for ebay. Last year I gave him cash. I listen carefully to what he says and take my cues from that. He is well loved by the wealthy (not me) parishoners of this rural area. He is exceptional and he works very hard. I try to let him know often what a gift and a blessing that he is. If he doesn’t like what I give him, he never lets on.

You didn’t come on too strong. I just over-worry about things like this. I just really enjoy the priest that is here. I love listening to him talk & wanted to let him know that we are thinking of him. I think it is so great what he & other priests do. I guess I could tell him that - I just worry that I would come across as strange.

Yes, I too could listen to my priest for hours. He has forgotten more than I’ll ever know. I respect, admire and trust him. He also sometimes makes me nuts. Part of his charm…

Okay, now I am confused. Was the Divine Mercy statue too personal? Or are the socks, gloves, etc too personal? I’ve noticed a lot of other people seem to buy socks & things like that.
Either way…I hope he likes it & it isn’t “inappropriate”.

And be glad- our priest has been hinting all through Advent that he would like a 704 some kind of signature race car engine- in every homily. The school cannot afford heat and the kids are going to class with pants and flannel bottoms under their uniforms, he refuses to hire a temp to replace the recouperating janitor- and he wants people to come up with a race car engine. He hints and hints, claims he’s using it as an example of hope and miracles, but he wants that engine.

Wow, a race car engine, huh? Now that’s an interesting request. I’d want to talk to him and get details…see if he’s mentally competent or in need of a vacation at the local mental health facility. It’s too late now, but if you could have found one in miniature, that would have been fun.

I think he is suffering from depression, as several bad things hit him this year. Too bad whoever the person who made the signature engine- can’t remember the name, but remember the 704- isn’t on a coin. I’d certainly love to hand over a 2005 Mario Andretti nickel.
