Now this is an interesting statement…‘orders of magnitudes’…I can follow that reasoning…You say contraception is inherently evil - I say it’s at least orders of magnitudes less evil than than the evils it addresses.

There are orders of magnitudes of evils.
God has revealed them to us.
Knowingly and willingly killing a human life is at the top of the list of intrinsic evils.
There are no ifs, ands or buts about the seriousness of that evil…no room for negotiation.
Looking at the evils we’ve been addressing -
1 poverty
2 abandoned children
3 sexually abused women
4 transmission of sexual diseases, some terminal
5 artificial birth control
Because we do not know the number of embryos killed by the use of ABC it’s difficult to get the magnitude of the seriousness about how evil ABC really is. People have bought into the lie that the sperm never gets a chance to hook up with the egg, and that’s just not true. The embryo (or isn’t it a zygote at that stage? - bottom line is the egg and the sperm do connect more often than not) is either killed by spermicides or kept from attaching itself to the uterine lining, thus starving it to death.
Because we can’t tell which uses of ABC result in the termination of a fertilized egg or actually succeed at keeping the sperm from the egg at all, the Church cannot risk even one of those lives by accepting ABC.
Transmission of sexual diseases because one would rather give in to their lust for 20 minutes of satisfaction than protect the life of the person they supposedly love is not on the same level as ABC, abortion, euthanasia, cloning and fetal stem cell research, but it’s pretty bad.
Sexually abused women…the way we’ve been addressing it is more a matter of the lack of respect for her health and well-being. Certainly not intrinsically evil, but since it lends itself to transmitting sexual diseases which could take their lives, it’s pretty bad.
Abandoned children…that’s pretty bad because it can lead to the death of innocents, but not intrinsically evil since it’s not directly and intentionally killing them.
Poverty…the mom and dad here, particularly in third world countries are not culpable of this one…that particular evil rests in the governments responsible for the care of its citizens.
I don’t see how the magnitude of contraception could be below the other 5 on the scale of evils.
