There are a lot of old yet lovely churches around the world whether it be a grand cathedral or a small chapel.

The Manila Cathedral is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Manila it has been destroyed and rebuilt a lot of times the original cathedral building has long been lost. It was closed down during the year 2012-2014 for repairationss.

There are a lot more churches here that are very old and beautiful I’m just too lazy to be bothered to put them but I will show you more sometime soon
Please share some of your countries beautiful churches!

Pittsburgh has more than its share of fine looking ecclesiastic edifices.

Mostly due to the fact that we were the “silicon valley” of the late 19th/early 20th Century and a lot of money was made here. Pittsburgh’s Catholic cathedral was built using ultrarich Henry Clay Frick’s money- Frick needed the old cathedral as a location for his Union Trust Arcade. The Mellon banking family built the cathedral like East Liberty Presbyterian Church which has a very Catholic look to it.

This is my parish. Built in 1880.

Not my church, but I saw this church on a quick trip to Kansas 20 years ago. Amazing how you see it in the distance, miles before you are near it. If you are ever out there, go see it!

And Kansas has the best steak we have ever had. It is the standard we compare everything else to. (We are now able to admit that Ruth’s Chris steak is pretty darn close. 😉 )

most beautiful cathedral I’ve visited is Sagrada Família, Barcelona, Span.

I’ll admit I am stretching the definition of ‘old’ here. Sure, they started building it in 1882 but wont finish it until at least 2026.

The first floor is a semi round alcove with chairs for those who need to step outside of Mass . The second floor, where the choir loft is located, is where the inner workings and pipes of our historic pipe organ are located and can be tuned and worked on when necessary.

As for the third floor, I had to ask my husband because he installed the electrical last year for the restoration of the bells in our tower which is in the square section on the left. He said it’s simply an attic space that holds the air compressor for the pipe organ.

It is so beautiful. My church is having a two-part session on the Theology of Catholic Church Architecture. Can’t wait!

That sounds so interesting. Enjoy! (and don’t forget to share some of what you learn here.) I’d love to hear about it.

If I am not mistaken its considered as the oldest stone church in the country

When we go to France, we love visiting the cathedral in Bayeux. It was consecrated on 14 July 1077 in the presence of William, Duke of Normandy and King of England
