The Old Catholic Church is a schismatic offshoot of the Roman Catholic Church. It is descended from the Utrecht Union of Churches that dissented from the doctrine of papal infallibility and some other items, in 1870.OK, I know this is page 2 and I’m a little late to the party here, but what is an “Old Catholic?”![]()
There are some Old Catholic parishes in my area, and I know some Roman Catholics who have switched from RC to OC, out of unhappiness with the Roman Catholic Church. I started this thread because of a situation that arose in which a person baptized in the OC attended a RC wedding as a guest and was uncertain whether it was permissible to receive Communion. He decided to err on the side of caution and didn’t do so, but I was curious about the actual rule for this sort of thing.
