Since you posted these last night I have read two of them, Purity and the one on Birth Control. The frankness with which these topics are discussed, and the edification they give to the serious reader are oases in a desert.

Is that your blog? Great work!!

Yes it is, thanks. I’m glad they helped. I have since put up two more: ‘the Rock of Peter’ and ‘the Maynooth Catechism (1951)’

I look forward to many more. I’m wondering if among the old pamphlets to which you have access, there are more which pertain to those of us in the single life? Purity, Chastity and subjects of that nature, especially perseverance? These are maybe obviously subjects of importance to me, and I’m sure quite a few others.

Also, the pamphlet on the Rock of Peter looks interesting. Are there other pamphlets which deal with subjects on the modern errors which many of the Popes from the French Revolution onward dealt with? I would look forward to reading those, if available.

Thank you for making available these fascinating pamphlets…

Maurin, I’m glad they’re of use. Re the requested pamphlets, I’ll see what I can do but it may be a week or two before I’m able to acquire them.

I’ve put up 4 more: Confession to a Priest, The Plain Blunt Man, Overpopulation: Is Birth Control the Answer?, and Hell: Questions and Answers

I’ll await them eagerly and patiently.

I kind of feel like kid all alone in a candy store wondering why all those people outside are just passing by and passing up all this free chocolate!!

If only there was good solid orthodox teaching readily available today. Oh wait, there is!, thanks to your posts.

The pamphlet on hell was a good one.

If you don’t mind, I would love to keep these .PDFs on my computer for reference throughout my conversion. 🙂 Best of all, for me, is the introduction to the pamphlet on the Holy Mass! The author very explicitly tells us that the pews are over-crowded on Sundays. This was 1950, and it seems to me that the recent decline in congregational size is due entirely to changes in the liturgy. What a wondrous set of convicted booklets these are! Thank you!

What a walk down memory lane that is. I still have my CTS Bible, cannot remember if I paid 6 shillings for it. I was taken back to the CTS shelf at the back of my parish church where all the pamphlets were on sale with an “honour” box to pay for them. Now what I really wish to see is a copy of the old Burns and Oates Penny Catechism. I did bring my copy to Australia, but lent it to another Catholic and the rest as they say is History. It differed from the Baltimore version , which I believe the Irish used, in that in the the first question was “Who Made the World”?. In the CTS version the first question was “Who Made You”?

I should have added in my previous reply, that I spent many happy lunch hours listening to the CTS speakers on Tower Hill, where they were in opposition to people like the Methodist minister Donald Soper. That would be almost 40 years ago:crying:

I am gladdened by the fact that others have found treasures of our Faith in these pamphlets. No nonsense, straightforward and frank expositions according to Faith and Morals of issues which still plague us today.

Our Lady, seat of Wisdom, pray for us.

Hi maritain,
Fantastic work! I congratulate you!
Last week, I was in Dublin and picked up a 2001 Mercier Press book called ‘Who Made the World?: the Catechism we learned in school’, a reissue of the famous Butler Catechism. It is great reading through it. ISBN 1 85635 380 X is the international book number.
God Bless,
Colmcille1.🙂

Maritain

Thank you so much for posting these tracts. They are super!

I only read the birth control one. Absolutely amazing. Concise, simple, yet clear and effective explanation of the issue.

Thank you so much, Maritain!

I am going to share “Before You Wed” with my fiancé, and send these links on to my mother. What a treat to read good teaching that doesn’t feel the need to make itself “relevant” by mentioning some music or movie star of the moment.
