I bring this up because you all know it won’t be long before the stores and airwaves are filled with Christmas goodies. What I am wondering is, what commercials, jingles, items, etc. give you the warm fuzzies of your childhood? For me, one thing is the ABC special logo that would swirl just before a special started, the old Toy R Us commercials, even though I never shopped there until I was an adult. The obvious are probably Coke and McDonald’s, but what about Dolly Madison? I almost forgot one of my all-time faves: Santa on the Norelco razor!:clapping:

Although it isn’t real old, my favorite is the Franco Harris/little kid Coke commercial. The one where he tosses his football jersey to the kid…One of the best in my opinion.

My favorite of the Christmas commercials is the Coke (although I rarely buy it) commercial with the polar bears.

Of regular commercials. Even though they are more recent, the Bud frogs and lizards commercials.

OK… Because I really am old enough to remember the commercial when it first aired in 1979 (I hate admitting I am getting older!)… I have to say, it was Mean Joe Green, not Franco Harris. It is one of my all-time faves, too.

My absolute favorite Christmas commercial is the Hershey kisses playing “We wish you a Merry Christmas.” Then on the last note of the song, the one kiss shakes itself all fast. Then he says “Whew.” (I think.)

My favorite regular commercial right now is the Southwest commercial where the guy is on a handfree device with his girlfriend and he says “You know, I think you’re beautiful.” And his co-worker says “Well, thank-you Craig, I’ve always been attacted to you too.” Then the guy goes “Hold on a sec babe, what did you say?” Then she realizes he was on the phone and the voiceover says “Need to get away?”

You know, when I first typed this, I knew somehow it wasn’t right. Thanks for setting me straight.!

This one ran so consistently for so many years, I’m sure I’m not the only one who can transcribe it with both hands tied behind my back:
  • “How do you get your shirts so clean, Mr Lee?”
  • “Ancient Chinese secret…”
  • “My husband: Some hot-shot. Here’s his ‘Ancient Chinese secret’ – Calgon. Calgon’s two water softeners soften wash water so detergents clean better.”
  • “Honey, we need more Calgon!”
  • “Ancient Chinese secret, huh!?”
…Poor Mr Lee…

For holiday ads, there’s nothing quite like Santa Claus schussing over the countryside on a Norelco razor.

I love the coffee (I think it’s Folgers) commercial for Christmas, where the grown son comes home while the family is still asleep and he makes them coffee. And the little sister says “Peterrrr!!” Peter hugs her and the mom is watching them, about to cry. They’ve been playing that one for as long as I can remember.

The Budweiser Clydsdales at Christmas too, love them.

“Marge, how do you get your hands so soft?”
“I use Palmolive Dish washing liquid. You’re soaking it it.”
(woman pulls fingers out quickly from the bowl).

I thought it was pretty funny that the lady wold pull her fingers out of the dish soap like it was acid.

"You’re soaking in it!’

“Pamper, Pamper, new shampoo
Gentle as a lamb, so right for you
Gentle as a lamb? Yes ma’m
Pamper, Pamper, new shampoo.”

Brusha, brusha, brusha,
New Ipana toothpaste
With the brand new flavor
So dandy for your teeeeeth!"

Halo, everybody, Halo
Halo is the shampoo to glorify your hair
So Halo, everybody, Halo."

“So, folks, pick up a pack of Chesterfield cigarettes - recommended by more doctors than any other brand.”

Okay, guess how old I am!?! 😃

You’ll wonder where the yellow went
When you brush your teeth with Pepsodent

Plop, plop, fizz, fizz,
Oh what a relief it is
(Alka Seltzer)

“I can’t believe I ate the whoooooole thing!”
(Pepto Bismol?)

You’ve got a lot to like in a Marlboro
Filter, flavor… pack or box.

“A silly millimeter longer” (Chesterfield 101’s)

Everything’s better with Bluebonnet on it!

That’s easy, for anyone who’s old enough to remember those commercials, you must also remember, “twenty nine!” (perenially 29! 😉 )

I remember a Sunoco commercial when I was a kid after we got a color TV. It showed an attendant (complete with bow tie) filling up a car in summer and winter, I guess to show that season after season, Sunoco’s the gas for you. The “season” changes were all on set and kind of kitschy, but I remember thinking, “boy, I can’t wait for summer” when I saw the green grass and leaves.

It was Alka Seltzer!

“I can’t believe I ate the whooooole thing”
“You ate it, Ralph.”

Also, the Alka Seltzer ad where the guy has to do multiple takes of a commercial, and is getting heartburn from the meatballs.

“That’s-a some spicy meatball”

I also love the Hershey’s Kiss Christmas Carol “bell ringers”, and the EDS “cat herding” commercial.

But if you’re talking about old, nostalgic warm fuzzies, then here are some of my favorites:

“You’ll wonder where the yellow went
When you brush your teeth with Pepsodent.”

B O
N O
M O
Bonomo’s
O, O, O,
It’s Bonomos
Caaaandy!
(that was for Bonomo’s Turkish Taffee)

Hot Dogs, Armour Hot Dogs
What Kind of Kids Eat Armour Hot Dogs?
Fat Kids, Skinny Kids, Kids Who Climb on Rocks,
Tough Kids, Sissy Kids, Even kids with chicken pox love hot dogs,
Armour hot dogs,
the dog…kids…love…to…bite!"

I also remember the old Keds sneakers commercials, and that coffee commercial that showed a “singing” percolator in a dining room (Maxwell House?)

Give me some time; I could come up with a lot more. 😃

Thanks for the memory! Can’t help but think that commercial would be considered too politically incorrect today:rolleyes:
One of my favorites was the husband eating the" speecy-spicy" meatballs, and “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing!” Alka-Seltzer commercials and Pepto-Bismol. Can’t forget Madge and Palmolove dish detergent, either. “You’re soaking in it!” “DISHWASING LIQUID??” “Relax, it’s Palmolive!”

“two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese…”

“oooohhhhh, my baloney has a first name, its O-S-C-A-R…”

ahhh, memories… 🙂

Remember Noxema Medicated Shave? “Take it off! Take it all off!!” Pretty racy for back then! How about “Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, tastes great, wish we had some, can’t wait!!”:yup: How about, “Can’t get enough of that Sugar Crisp, Sugar Crisp, Sugar Crisp, can’t get enough of that Sugar Crisp, keeps me going strong!” or “N-E-S-T-L-E-S, Nestles makes the very best… CHOCOLATE!!!”
