Old malaria drug may cure Covid-19 ... pray ... it is still questionable

Yes, I am. Sadly, in the US it happens all the time.
When I first started taking it 6 years ago, I paid less than $20 for 30 days. It has gone up to $90 at most retail outlets, I get it for $44 at Costco, but still a significant jump in 5 years. Without it, I can barely function. And with no prescription coverage, I can’t afford a huge jump in cost, which, with the law of supply & demand, is almost assured to happen.

It’s a generic … a lot of companies can make it if they choose to.
 
I have not had the generic form available in a few years. I get brand name Plaquenil.
I have already seen fluctuations due to demand, while I am happy a cure for Covid19 may have been found, it will have a profound impact on pricing and availability.

I will try to pray daily with you all that this works. I thought that there were two drugs that they were testing. Whatever the case I pray:
  1. For great success in the most dire of cases.
  2. That it safe for everyone who needs it to take.
  3. That enough is produced for everyone who needs it.
  4. That it is free to all covid19 patients and remains affordable for those who use it for other conditions.

I fully expect we will have evidence on it’s efficacy within the month, though maybe not yet to FDA approval standards. It may save many lives in off-label use. If a loved one is in ICU, demand it’s use.

In that vein, the University of Minnesota is organizing a trial to treat 1,500 people with hydroxychloroquine who were exposed to the virus from infected family members or as healthcare workers but are not yet ill. The study relied on laboratory experiments in China that found hydroxychloroquine inhibited the infection.

At Costco. If I went to my local pharmacy it would be closer to 200%
That was the increase in cost for my hydrochlorequine from last month to this month. 😳:roll_eyes:😠
I am lucky, I can absorb this cost. It will be a dent in my “mad money” for each month, but some are not so lucky.
