Now I would find this to be stereo typing and offensive to a gay person. They make great hair dresser and designers, nice. Well they make great lawyers, doctors etc. too.
:thumbsup:My wonderful gay friend is a terrific lawyer! My awesome gay cousin is a very bright man! I love them both dearly! That said, I don’t like the gay pride shirts and if I liked Old Navy clothes, which I don’t since everything I have ever bought from them has been cheap and fallen apart, I would stop shopping there. Why do all the companies feel the need to make a stand? Why do I have to know what all the “stars” stand for. I don’t get it. Just make the clothes well so I don’t waste my money and keep your political feelings to yourself!

There is nothing wrong with rainbow t-shirts. They probably made them because it is pride month, so more people would want to buy them.

it’s the month of the Sacred Heart 😦

I don’t feel comfortable with Old Navy selling these shirts.

This is a link regarding the topic of homosexuality from the Catholic medical Association. It is very informative especially part 1 after the Introduction about Not Born that Way (genetic vs.environmental). I tend to agree with them.

My son is gay and when he told me at 17 yrs. old I said that I would always love him unconditionally but that I could not support the practice. He was fine with this. I told my husband and he just accepted it. We have always been very close and still are. He is an outstanding young man who graduated high school with honors in the International Baccalaureate Program and then graduated from college in Computer Science. He has been on his own for since he graduated and has worked as a computer scientist for four years. He is now buying his first home.

I shop at Old Navy and I don’t think there is anything wrong with buying clothes there.

What you are saying does have alot of validity. However I don’t feel that Old Navy meant any offense. They probably don’t know much about Catholicism. I suppose that most of those types of large chain stores will sell whatever people will buy. It is kind of funny that LGBT pride month would be june though…

Hey all,

My daughter came up with a saying which I really like:

“Support the person, not the lifestyle.”

I think this is a really good alternative to the overused, “Hate the sin, not the sinner”. It sounds more positive also. 😉

I was surprised to learn that Old Navy is the first major retailer to sell gay pride wear. Another sign of the times, I guess.

Here’s an article:

"Old Navy to sell gay pride T-shirts

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Gay pride T-shirts are going on sale at Old Navy next week. That makes the chain store the first major retailer to sell gay pride gear."…

I don’t shop there much to begin with, so they won’t miss my money.

For those Catholics who say they don’t care about this and will continue to shop there, did you read that Old Navy is donating 10 percent of the proceeds to the “It Gets Better Project,” a pro-LGBT campaign? Since they are supporting a homosexual activist organization, that means Old Navy supports the lifestyle. As Catholics, is that what you want to support? Yes, we are called to love those and support those who carry the heavy cross of SSA, but are we also called to support an active homosexual lifestyle? No.

Yes, this was just my daughter’s message: “Support the person, not the lifestyle”.

I also wonder how we have gotten to the point where we take “pride” in our sinful inclinations. I don’t have “pride” about my anger or sloth.

Also, I have heard the testimony of several men and women who were able to leave the lifestyle, who felt they were encouraged by others to enter it in the first place. All of this encouragement to give in and embrace SSA during adolescence when young people are still just figuring things out is setting them up for a great deal of physical and emotional pain.

Dr. Richard Fitzgibbons, a Catholic Pyschiatrist discusses this in his webinar:

Right to Informed Consent in Youth and Homosexuality

This is why I would prefer that our young people not be encouraged to embrace this lifestyle and be “proud” of it. Instead they should be taught the real dangers that are a part of it in a caring and understanding way.

Your post is compassionate. Caring. Loving. Understanding. Helpful. All those things combine to result in the all-important, tolerant. 👍

It may not be seen that way by many outside the Catholic world because it is not supportive of the lifestyle, but it is all those things nonetheless. 👍

agreed. however, I don’t want to send a message to my kids that being gay is also “wrong” b/c it’s not.

On my daughter’s college campus, declaring oneself to be gay is the latest fad. She’s a senior now (!!) and four of her acquaintances who declared themselves gay as freshmen have now decided they are straight after all. So we need to be careful not to sway young people who are “on the fence” or just following a trend. SSA is not inherently sinful, but I think we can all agree that living a chaste lifestyle is easier for heterosexuals.

what is SSA?

edited…I get it…Same Sex Attraction 😃

It’s a fine line to walk. I wouldn’t want my kids to feel like mutants b/c they are gay or think that they might be gay.

The phenomenon that you are describing is LUG… Lesbian until graduation! In most of those cases it’s not a natural SSA that most gay people have. In most of those cases it’s just girls exploring their sexuality for the first time–outside of the purview of their parents and home communities. LUGs are almost never really gay.

Hehehe. I learn something new every day!

I agree – it is a delicate balancing act.

This is why I would still shop Old Navy. I would just explain to them that it’s ok to be gay and then as they are older what the church’s stance is on it.

There is a lesbian couple that has a house behind our house. I won’t allow Elisa to hang out with their dd who is my dd’s age b/c I don’t want to expose my dd to the imorality of it. I also told my live-in nanny the same…that I don’t want my kids playing with them.

I know it sounds mean.

I am still very nice to this family when I see them and if dd and their dd begin to play, I don’t stop it, but I don’t encourage it either.

Here the thing when you say it is okay to be “gay”, for many people they translate that to mean it okay to be a sexually active homosexual. Gay pride = its okay to have homosexual sex. This is why a lot of people will use the term SSA instead of gay. People are reacting to Old Navy making a statement by selling gay pride shirts, and interpret that as celebrating homosexual sex. Based on your posts I think if you used SSA instead of Gay I don’t think many would disagree with you.
