Old Navy is Going Gay

I find myself very confused and empathetic as well… I know of a gay couple who adopted three little boys, siblings, who all had fetal alcohol syndrome. No straight couples would take on one of those children alone, much less all three. I can’t find a parallel to besteality or pedophilia when people, that while living in sin, have such kind hearts.

I compare those living the gay lifestyle to straight people having sex outside of marriage. No more, no less. I love my friends to death even though they are having premarital sex, what happens in their bedrooms has no impact on me.

I don’t understand the cruel remarks and anger directed towards the gay community. They deserve no more anger or hatred than those having extramarital straight sex. Hate the sin, not the sinner…
Right, but there are no shirts, parades and groups promoting extramarital straight sex!

It has nothing to do with how nice the people are, it’s still wrong.

I love my cousin very much. He is a wonderful man, but his lifestyle is wrong. It breaks my heart to know that his soul is in much trouble. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love him or that I don’t think he’s a nice guy. And his lifestyle does have an impact on me as I want the people I love to have every chance to get to Heaven, knowing that he is doing something that will most likely keep him from getting there is upsetting.

🤷 I know the lifestyle is wrong. But as far as being bothered about your cousin getting into heaven… only God decides that, try not to worry about it excessively. Telling him he’s going to hell if he doesn’t change will not make him change… it won’t make anyone change. If he knows you are Catholic, he knows how you feel already, and you have done all you can.

Um… yes there are! Swinger clubs, lewd tee shirts you can find at many popular stores, fetish clubs… there are as many if not more directed for straight, disordered, and extramarital sex. Gay sex is not the worst thing out there - I think bondage and discipline, the S&M lifestyle, rape, and pedophilia are far worse and heinous plagues to society. They are just kept under wraps more often.

It’s a concern, but I don’t worry excessively about it, just pointing out that the choices of those we love do impact our lives too.

We’ve talked about it. He knows where I stand, but I don’t harp or tell him he’s going to Hell.

There’s also that British clothing line called “FCUK” that straight people where as a very bold statement. I think that speaks volumes in itself.

Jane, don’t let this thread get to you. If you are a single mother, you’re doing something very incredible. I find being a mom hard and I have a husband.

Sometimes these threads become very “personal” and begin to hurt people unintentionally.
Thank you. To clarify, I m not a single mother myself but the child of one. Like everyone else I love my mother and cant help but immediately jump to her defense where I see the need to. I find that the fact I was born ‘out of wedlock’ has been but an insignificant triviality of my life in the context of the great life my mother and most of my other family members have made for me. However when I see ‘out of wedlock’ births lumped in with things like child abuse I cant help but react emotionally. I cant speak for everyone obviously but I imagine that children of gay couples might have a similar reaction when reading something like this thread and wonder, ‘i love my parents, they gave me a great life, why is everyone pitying me for?’. Not that homosexuality is the same as my situation, but I can imagine what it feels like.

I really appreciate roseofshannon’s response however. She was more charitable to me than many people I have met in real life. To me that is what Christian charity looks like. We can all have our views on things, and people might call us intolerant, but if we express them the right way one can make a world of difference.

Your mom is a good woman!!!

Very true. Also the articles and pictures in men’s and some womens’ mags - as an example of something that is not kept under wraps so much.

Well, rape and pedophilia are the worst on the list, yes. The others are what I would call sick.

Yes, there are lewd shirts out there and I take issue with them as well, but there isn’t a promo pushing them. Old Navy could have made these shirts and put them in the store without saying a word. It’s the fact that they made a point of saying they were making these shirts, kind of as a test run, to see what other gay things they would do.
And really, why do gay people need a special shirt? There is no sin in SSA, but there is also no reason to sell products promoting the homosexual lifestyle 🤷

No gay sex is not the worst thing out there, I don’t think anyone said it was. But that doesn’t mean that we should turn a blind eye to the fact that it is now considered “okay”.
I would like to be able to live my life without an agenda being tossed at me every time I go to the store.

True. I’m very thankful that the grocery stores here now cover up the front covers of a lot of magazines in the check out line!

Yes, exactly.👍 But this becomes so difficult because of how things can be misinterpreted (especially online–without voice inflection and body language etc.). Of course God can bring good out of situations which may not be the ideal (as is obviously displayed in your case Jane!;))

The point I was trying to make earlier is that the Church represents God, who loves us and wants only what is best for us. His commands are there to protect us from harm in this life and in the next. The Church as our Mother warns us against things which will hurt us body and soul–just as a loving mother warns her kids not to play in the street.

But our society portrays that as unloving and hateful. Plus “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

Also, the Church teaches the
NINE WAYS OF BEING ACCESSORY TO ANOTHER’S SIN

By counsel.
By command.
By consent.
By provocation.
By praise or flattery.
By concealment.
By partaking.
By silence.
By defense of the ill done

One of the reasons the stores put the covers on the magazine racks is that enough moms and dads complained to the manager. Sometimes what may seem like a little vinegar is necessary to protect our kids from harm. :knight2:

Sorry but Catholics toss agenda too, my mother owns several religious t-shirts that help fund religious companies.

At least the pride t-shirts do help a cause as well, whether you agree or not the proceeds go to a suicide hotline for gay youth, and many others go to help youth who have been kicked out because of their orientation.

Whether I agree with homosexuality or not, a rainbow on a t-shirt is hardly offensive and at least it helps people who do need it.

The other day I walked into the mall and saw a young girl wearing a shirt that said “Party like a rockstar, f*ck like a pornstar” this goes to no cause at all and is much more offensive!!!

Catholic agenda is to save their souls, at least gay agenda is to save their lives long enough to get that far. There is some clashing but there are shirts far worse that have no agenda at all.

Sorry, I just don’t see why homosexuality seems to be such an issue compared to the other things people turn a blind eye to.

I see what you are saying. My homosexual friends tell me all the time that some homosexual activists make the rest of them look bad with the things they push. However I think if it just a rainbow t shirt, I have no issues with it. I have always loved rainbows and refuse to give it up as a symbol of homosexuality. 😛

I might be a bit ignorant on this though. I would however be opposed to a T shirt with questionble slogans or two men kissing, for example.

Yep good post. Here where I live they put the ‘lads’ mags’ (the ones with topless women on the cover) on the highest shelves. Which is something, I suppose.

I personally like rainbow shirts. I would put one on my kids…why not? They are pretty.

There are far worse shirts being sold and worn by youth than rainbow shirts. I’ve seen some, but I’m debating whether or not to even put out the examples.

But a gay pride shirt is hardly a reason to stop shopping at a store.
