Old Testament all fulfilled?

One of the things that keeps coming up when speaking to my Protestant Brothers is O.T. prophecy concerning the re-building of the Temple and the Promise Land. If Jesus fulfilled all things in Himself so that all those things in the O.T. are now completed with the coming of God-Man.

Keep in mind there are 2 pictures of Messiah in the Old Testament - the Suffering Servant and the Conqueing King. Jesus fulfilled all things related to the Suffering Servant. When he read from Isaiah in the synagog (Luke 4:18-19), he didn’t read the entire passage (see Isaiah 61:1-4 and see where Jesus stopped). This is why, after He finished and handed the scroll back, everyone kept looking at Him. There are still Old Testament prophecies of the Conquering King that have yet to be fulfilled. Plus, there are prophecies in the New Testament concerning the return of Jesus.

The only thing yet to be fulfilled is Christ’s second coming and the judgment. Some of our Protestant brethren have a 2 part interpretation to many passages in order to support a literal 1000 year reign and a rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem. This interpretation is really nothing but conjecture based on an idea that the Church has never supported. It’s roots are in the Brethren movement of the 19th century.

When Jesus said, “It is finished.” He meant that the redemption of the world had been completed. He had completed his Father’s will in all things. He is reigning as King now, in his Church, which is his Kingdom on Earth–we are already seated with him at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the world and to create a new heavens and a new earth and we will be with him in eternity.
