@ jonbhorton: Wonderful arguments and logic. Easy to follow, and well worded. You have convinced me to read Judges, a book, along with many others, I previously had not fully or properly read in context. I notice protestants and evangelicals like to quote a verse here-or-there without presenting the full story. Thank you. 👍

I suppose it might seem that way if you already agree with his position:shrug:

I remain unconvinced by arguments that are largely just based on his speculation though.

I read the article.
Not very convincing.
Like the person I have been debating in this thread, the author admits that he has incomplete knewledge (and is merely speculating a great deal). Moreover, he is operating from the assumption that the law was usually applied in a merciful (or at least fair) way.

You know the more I analyze it, the more unreasonable it seems to give the ancient Israelites the benefit of the doubt when it comes to interpreting these laws about sex, marriage, and women; fairly and in a way that favors women.

I just came across a news article about the Ultra-Orthodox (who claim to be the most traditional and faithful to the Torah of all Jews) using their influence to ban women from gynecological conferences in Israel (link to article: theglobeandmail.com/news/…ontent=2297159).

And here’s the new thread I created on the subject at CAF: forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=633654
