Jesus was the fulfillment of the law and the end thereof. Old Testament sacraments symbolic of sacrificial OT principle, are no longer needed as result of THE SACRIFICE JESUS CHRIST MADE FOR MANKIND. The observation of sacraments, charity, and baby baptism is not your ticket to salvation folks. Sorry to burst your bubble. You need to go ahead and read the whole Word of God and not just the OT and interpret it in a carnal way with no understanding of the New Covenant God made with His people through the sending of His Son to die for a people deserving of eternal damnation. Im not here to attack i just want you to understand that sacraments are not synonymous with salvation any more. Jesus Christ is our salvation and our foundation and needs to be where our trust is. Not in sacraments and Hail Marys.
God Bless
P.S. Jesus had brothers

Nor were they EVER. Sorry, but it seems you have no clue what a “sacrament” even is, much less what Catholics believe about them.

It’s a shame that you were not around to straighten out the apostles. Seems that they got it all wrong and now finally in 2007 you figured it out. Way to go!!!

you guys misunderstand me time and time again. Im not saying they are wrong, im just saying they are no longer necessary. Fair enough?

They were not necessary for salvation back then either. Anyway Catholics don’t follow Mosaic Law in the first place, so it’s pretty much irrelevant any way you slice it. Of course I know your mindset that all “rituals” are exactly the same and they all must be there because the people think it is their source of salvation. (because no other kind of rituals exist, right? ) Sorry but you really need to learn what Catholics actually believe. I know I sound like a broken record but unless you actually learn what you are criticizing, you will only make a fool of yourself trying to refute something nobody here believes in the first place.

Contrary to forum popular belief, the premise of Spreading The Gospel is not one of condemnation and criticizing. I just want to understand more about the catholic belief system and understand where you guys are coming from so i can more efficiently share my heart with you. Please dont think that I am attacking or dogging the catholic faith, i just want you to see that i care about you and love you despite disagreement. Please take what i say to heart as opposed to disregarding it due to defensive action taking by most when they are challenged about their beliefs. I just want to know more and share more. God Bless

You claimed to “know” what Catholics believed already, the second you posted on this forum, and then proceeded to lecture people on “Catholic” beliefs that were based on these incorrect assumptions - THIS is what I have a problem with. If you had been honest from the beginning and said you weren’t really aware of what Catholics believe, that would have been perfectly reasonable.

You haven’t challenged anyone on their (actual) beliefs yet, but I assure you that when/if you do I will not have to resort to some emotional “defensive” action.

Do you believe that Catholics are Christians?
How do you think you came to have the NT?

How do you explain Romans 2:12-16?
12 All who sin outside the law will also perish without reference to it, and all who sin under the law will be judged in accordance with it.

13 For it is not those who hear the law who are just in the sight of God; rather, those who observe the law will be justified.

14 For when the Gentiles who do not have the law by nature observe the prescriptions of the law, they are a law for themselves even though they do not have the law.

15 They show that the demands of the law are written in their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even defend them

16 on the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge people’s hidden works through Christ Jesus.

Thanks for the blessing, NP -

How do you explain Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:17-20
17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.

18 Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.

19 Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

20 I tell you, unless your righteousness surpasses that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Hi NP -

How do you expain Jesus’ words in John 6:51-56?
51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."

52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?”

53 Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.

54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.

55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.

If you want to truly understand the Catholic faith, you need to click on “Library” at the very tippy-top of this page and do some reading. Another good resource online is The Catholic Bridge.

Read those first, then you’ll see where your issues with The Church are based on half-truths and misconceptions about what the Church actually believes and teaches. If the Catholic Church actually taught what you say it does, I, for one, wouldn’t want anything to do with it; and I’d probably still be an independent, fundamental Baptist.

While I think New Perspective could frame his comments in a more charitable way, I agree with him on his basic premise.

Christ came to do away with all “outward forms” and establish a New Covenant, without forms and ceremonies…without a separate “prieshood” to perform “sacraments” or “ordinances” on our behalf. Christ is the fulfillment of all those “requirements”

While the apostles and early church did perform ordinances and sacraments such as the eucharist, baptism and foot washing, they also continued to worship in the temple and perform sacrifices…but these slowly were discontinued. Paul realized as an apostle that he was not sent to baptize but to preach the gospel and was grateful he hadn’t performed any baptisms, except for perhaps a few, as it detracted from the gospel.

As a Friend, I do believe in One Baptism, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, I do believe in one Lord and one Church…a mystical Body of believers regenerated by the power of God’s Spirit.

The ordinances and sacraments are not forbidden by any stretch of imagination, and for those who find grace and blessing in them, and the majority of Christians do, I rejoice with them in their faith, but for those of us who are not moved to participate in the “outward signs” of sacraments and ordinances, I can also rejoice…we are made one by His Spirit…

May I reccomend Holy Father’s New Book Jesus of Nazereth? It addresses this topic rather directly on pages 99-122.

I am grateful for the Sacraments. I ask all critics to please, please read what Holy Father says about the old and new law in his book. 🙂
