I know this has been talked about before but I seem to not be able to find the link. What are some of the OT prophecies of Christ and how do we refute people who say that we misinterpreted them. Any websites or previous forum links would be great. Thanks as always and God Bless!

PS What prophecies does the Church call valid? Is there room for error in our interpretation? Is it possible we are wrong?

Sorry…I have been on a prophecy kick as of late!

Thanks again!

It is argued that Isaiah 7:14 is mistranslated as “behold, a virgin shall conceive…” when it should read young woman. This is refuted, however, by the fact that the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible that the apostles used to write the New Testament) was translated by several Jewish Rabbis over 200 years before the birth of Jesus. The Septuagint renders Isaiah 7:14 as virgin, meaning the Jews did indeed expect a virgin birth.

By today’s standards of interpretation we do misrepresent the prophecies. But, if one interprets prophecy in light of Jewish methods of interpretation in the time of the apostles, then the NT does interpret them correctly.

I am confused by this quote. Could you or someone else please expand on this? What are the Jewish methods of interpretation during the time of the Apostles?

Thanks again!
