=Mikaele;7134867]Is God hardening Pharaoh’s heart a little unfair? Does that mean he didn’t have free will? Also, sending an angel to kill babies, that sounds a little evil for God to be doing. How do you answer people who have questions about some of the things found in the Old Testament that don’t seem to match up to our idea of a loving God?
***A Good place to start is a correct understanding of who and what God is.
God is all and only all Good things Perfected."***
While God can permit evil, God in an absolute sense cannot CAUSE evil.
Having shared this it is imperative to understand that God’s application of Devine Justice cannot be evil.
In the case o Pharoh we need to note the following:
**Exo. 1: 8-14 **"Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. ome, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war befall us, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens; and they built for Pharaoh store-cities, Pithom and Ra-am’ses. But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. So they made the people of Israel serve with rigor, and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field; in all their work they made them serve with rigor. "
***This lack of charity gives evidence that Pharoah’s heart was already hardened before Yahweh got directly involved with Moses.
And Pharoh was FIRST to kill innocent babies!
Then notice the progression and seriouness of the warnings.***
**v. 15-16 **Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiph’rah and the other Pu’ah, “When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, she shall live.”
**Exo. 17-22 **“When you serve as midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, she shall live.” But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, …
[22] Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, “Every son that is born to the Hebrews you shall cast into the Nile, but you shall let every daughter live.”
***Each denial of Yahweh’s request resulted in a further harding of the Pharoahs heart. So God was TRULY justifed in stepping in, and further hardened the heart of Pharoah.
God can respond harshly but always in Divine Justice.
The second point is to CONSIDER who and what Jesus Christ is:
Jesus in an absolute sense did not HAVE TO:
Become Incarnate [human like us in everyway but sin.] Other ways could have been taken by God.
Christ did not HAVE TO suffer His passion and freely choose to be nailed to the cross
Jesus did not have to Institute The Mass nd the Eucharist; the very gift of Himself. Each one of these acts gives evidence of a ever increasing love for us.
Keep that in mind when judging God’s actions.
