Old Testament References to Paul?

Are there any Old Testament prophesies or references to Paul that reinforce his apostolic claim? It appears to me that his story is similar to many others throughout history who have claimed to have had visions of our Savior and changed the course of our catholic faith.

Read Acts 8:1-3; 9:1-30*; 13:1-52; 14:1-28; 15:1-41; 16:1-40; 17:1-34; 18:1-23; 19:1-31; 20:1-38; 21:1-40; 22:1-5; 22:6-21*; 22:22-30; 23:1-35; 24:1-22; 25:1-27; 26:1-11; 26:12-18*; 26:19-32; 27:1-44; 28:1-31–I just went thru the book of Acts of the Apostles… it basically reads as Paul’s personal conversion and missionary work. The passages with the * are of special importance as they reveal Paul’s encounter with Jesus.

Understand that Paul was a very religious person. As a Jew he defended Yahweh’s cause to the best of his understanding… Jesus called him, the worst of the Church’s prosecutors, in order to send him to the Gentiles (Paul was an educated and well-rounded Jew whose religious convictions were unquestionable… till he learned the truth directly from our Lord Jesus Christ Himself!)

As Moses, he had reservations since just a little while ago he had been persecuting the Church to whom Jesus was sending him. He expected that none would believe his claims and would see him as some sort of undercover agent sent by the Jews to divide and conquer…it turns out that he became one of Jesus’ best apolegetics!

Hello, I am a new member, too. However, not a new Christian.

You ask a very interesting question and I think I shall have to read up on that.

Let me tell you one thing though. The prophet Joel says in verse 2:28 “…your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.” (KJV) If you use a Catholic Bible it may go into chapter 3:1.

It is then up to us to try the spirits to determine if they be of God.

You know, I’ve thought on this periodically since you posted it, and I can’t come up with a single Type that points us to Paul, nor any prophecies that could be singled out to Paul.

He is, although, the poster child for the “written in stone” Old Covenant follower, who will become the “written in your heart” New Covenant follower. I don’t think anybody represents the passion of both Covenants as well as Paul. Although Stephen seems to reveal the Spiritualness of the New Covenant in ways that inspire me so much, but now I think I’m beginning to ramble.

What’s interesting is that Paul brings to light so many of the most obscure Typologies of the Old Testament. Christ is the Rock that followed the Israelites in the Wilderness. Christ is the 2nd Adam. Paul is actually the one that introduced us to the teaching on Typology, things in the Old Testament “being but a shadow of the good things to come” (paraphrasing). But I don’t recall Paul showing how he is the fulfillment of anything in the Old Testament.
