Old Testament Temple Roots of Mass?

Happy Easter!

Has anyone ever looked into, written an article or book, etc., the temple roots of the Catholic liturgy? I own, but have yet to read, Margaret Barker’s Temple Themes in Christian Worship, though I’m not sure if her understandings are regarded as orthodox.

As I think about Catholic practices, it seems clear to me that there is a relationship between the ancient Temple and the Catholic liturgy, which is even more pronounced with the Tridentine Mass (it’s been awhile since I’ve attended one though). From the cleansing with water before entering the sacred space, to the priest offering sacrifice, to the presence of God, to the Bread of the Presence (Brant Pitre talks about this in his book Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist, great book!), it is obvious that there is a relationship between the two, which makes sense to me as Christ came to fulfill, not necessarily to abolish.

Anyway, I’m just wondering if anyone else has pondered this, has resources on this, etc.

I personally have not, but used to work with a fairly orthodox Jewish gentleman, and he said his Rabbi once commented that if you wanted to see a traditional old Jewish service, attend a Catholic Mass done well.

Pope Emeritus Benedict talks about it in Spirit of the Liturgy. Both the synagogal and temple worship entered into Christian liturgy. I don’t think he goes into detail, though. It has been a few years since I read it.
