Old testament violance?

While violence against anyone is wrong in my opinion, as it is to most people, BUT that does not mean we are right…maybe ‘SOME’ violence and killing is justified in Gods eyes?

If you agree that God has the sovereign right to terminate his creation, no justification is necessary.

I have also read many of the OT verses, some of which literally demand the faithful to go out and kill others that blaspheme the lord, even goes as far to instruct them to kill the persons families, and sometimes, everyone in the city!

many people say all this violence was meant for a different time period and not intended for modern times we live in, but again, we dont know this for sure, maybe they only tell us this as to avoid all kinds of killing? What would happen if priests started instructing their parish members to go out and kill people that were blaspheming God? Would anyone obey it…how would law enforcement deal with such a thing if the catholic faith started instructing these types of things?

Unlike the OT prophets who were appointed by God to be his mouthpiece, no priests today are designated or held to be his prophets and representing HIM.

Law enforcement officials will do their duties professionally. Any person representing any religion today can ask/brainwash their followers to do all sorts of things. The CC is not that privileged to monopolize this sort of behaviour. . You think Catholics will obey false Christs? You must have a pretty low opinion of their mental development. Don’t you remember that if someone preach a different gospel, we will not listen?

Also, I have wondered if many of these verses were not intended for modern times and none of the laws of the OT are even applicable to us…well, the 10 commandments were in the OT, why are we told to still obey and follow these in modern times if the new covenant was meant to do away with all the OT laws?

The spirit of OT laws are still with us, which in its distilled form is love God, love neighbour. Ceremonial, dietary laws, tribal laws, circumcision laws have been deemed not applicable any longer as God’s covenant is now for all peoples. Many OT laws and customs were to preserve the purity of the chosen race as well as befitting of those times. Some OT laws were abrogated over time reflecting the stages of development of their relationship with God.

I want to make it clear, I do not condone or think its right to go out and kill anyone, for any reason, but Im only a human, maybe God has a different opinion.

I do think the modern day catholic church is more concerned with following mans civil laws versus Gods laws though…in many instances I think the CC is more concerned with being a ‘good citizen of society’ when really, society and the CC should not have such a great relationship, being that they do in many areas, is suspect to me. Looking back thru history the church and civil Govts were always at each others throats over issues, often resulting in fighting, etc…strange, that in modern times, seems to be the exact opposite??

The CC respect the secular laws of countries to the extent they are held not against God’s law. The CC does not agree with abortion for example. Modern democracies over time tend to protect the weak, poor, and the abused which the CC agree with. Even if the government doesn’t help, private organizations do. Hence no real conflict there.
