now i feel bad for all the fun i missed playing. to be on the safe side I’ll stay away from a card with a picture of suicide. suicide is evil.

Just make sure you play with a deck where the king of hearts is shown holding his sword vertically, not horizontally:

Most of them look like the sword is going through his hat! Here’s one definitely going through his head!

Short sword or just forgot to show the other side? Hmmm…

Yep, that’s where the “suicide card” myth came from!

This sword stuff is ridiculous. I’ve never seen a King card with the sword diagonal against the head. All of the King cards I’ve ever seen has the sword straight up vertical. If I ever saw a King card like that one, I’d wonder what kind of deck it comes from. Certainly not the norm that I’ve ever seen.

Thank you, @Soubirous. This fact amazes me:

It has been shown that because of the large number of possibilities from shuffling a 52-card deck, it is probable that no two fair card shuffles have ever yielded exactly the same order of cards.[3]

The footnote explains the math.

I love playing Hearts. You don’t have to rely on a partner not to screw things up 🙂 Plus there’s nothing like the feeling of three people pointing fingers at each other because you “shot the moon”.

My sisters and I used to play a card game called speed. You each get half a deck, and in the center are four build piles. As fast as possible you and your opponent have to use the top four cards of your deck to add to the common build piles in the center. It’s a manic game, but fun.

My friends and I used to have a weekly poker game. It was more for bragging rights then sizable sums of money. We made up all sorts of crazy variations.

I forgot about Hearts! Love it!
As kids, our favorite game was crazy 8’s. Kids about 6and up can play it!

Good call about kids and crazy eights. It’s nice because adults are on the same level as kids and can just have fun with it.

Yes! My dad played with me and the cousins when we were kids and he’d stack the deck so we would get the 8’s and always beat him. I think we were about 14 before we figured it out! 😂. We made him play honest after that…and still usually beat him. Kids love the game!

To me it looks more like he’s using a dagger to scratch the back of his head wondering, “Uh, now whee the heck did I put my crown?”

😂😂😂
The only issue I have is that it looks kind of silly with the other end of the sword not showing. It appears to be a dramatically short sword!

Now I can’t unsee it!

Also the handle of the sword is remarkably thin. The comparative width between the handle versus the blade is something you’d see in a Fudgesicle. “Swordsicle”?

I recently introduced my 5 year old grandson to the card game of War using regular 52 deck of cards. His Mom had cut him off from playing/using electronic devices for the day and he said that he was bored. It is an easy game to learn and we both had fun. When the card we both laid down was the same, I encouraged increasing the excitement by shouting out “WAR”. He caught on quickly and played several rousing rounds. His interest was kept because it isn’t a game of skill and with luck he could beat me.

Maybe he was just scratching the itch on the back of his head.

To me, it always looked like he was ready to strike. The sword is at the apex behind him ready to brought forward with a powerful down stroke.
