He’s not ‘looking for it’ it simply a matter of holiness being a requirement that can’t be wiggled out of. Those requirements are for our own good ultimately and can be dealt with properly in a non-anxious way through day by day trust in the Lord and working on one’s faults.
The Church also teaches not to worry, not to give in to anxiety, but to do one’s best while at peace and trusting in God. Even when we weep over our sins it is trusting in God.
If you’re scrupulous you should avoid reading sermons like this, not because they are not true but because you have to know your limitations and can’t handle them, and since you know you can’t handle them and they become an occasion for sinful despair or thinking bad thoughts about God rather than dealing with them properly, you have to step back until you deal with the first problem on the table that is trust in God no matter what and the faith that leads to understanding or not depending on His will for you.
You must trust Him no matter what. Because He is perfectly good, perfect love, perfect justice, perfect mercy – His understanding is far greater than yours, like the bottom of the sea from the stars in space – He is God and you are not.
These sermons read by the light of grace and trust in God are perfectly easy to handle, but if you don’t approach them -properly- you can’t handle them. This is difficult stuff but it can be handled in time.
I want to recommend ‘Trustful Surrender to Divine Providence’ the book again. It can take years to understand but it is a great aid.
