Thanks everyone. All the posts have been very encouraging, especially the study about the ages of ordinands!

Timmay, one order did make an issue out of my age. It was the Legionaires of Christ who I don’t think I’d like anyway. The diocese never made an issue nor anyone else for that matter I suppose.

I guess I am just thinking that I still have a few years of getting my spiritual life in order and getting more habitual continence before I could seriously consider these vocations.

Pax Christi tecum.

Even if you will not be ready to enter the seminary for several years, it could not hurt to start spiritual direction. It may also help you with continence to regularly confess to a priest who knows your story.

May God Bless your vocation abundantly!

Anyone here a little more along in life and discerning a vocation? It’d be interesting to hear from you if you are. I’m 30 and discerning.

Pax Christi tecum.
A couple of members on here allready know this, but I am 33 and will be entering the seminary this autumn.

Thank you bilop,

I have found a spiritual director and plan to meet with him regularly. I do confess regularly as well and, God help me always, I’ll continue to do so because there is so much grace and help from Our Lord in that Sacrament.

Thank you for your blessing.

Pax Christi tecum.

Hi everyone!!

I’m 29 and just have begun discerning vocation to the religious life. I recently was at WYD 2008 in Sydney with some amazing priests and religious (and laypeople, obviously), and Fr. Paul in particular was awesome in so many ways. 👍 :extrahappy:

Blessings and prayers to all of you,
Chantal

Excellent responses everyone…better than I could ever express.
Just my additional thoughts…Yes as a returning vocation I definitely fit the “older vocations” category.
  1. do connect with the director of vocations for your diocese
2)Pray daily both for knowledge of your own vocation, and also for increased vocations in the church.
  2. Do connect with your spiritual director so as to have someone with you on your journey.
Now practically speaking?
  1. Many diocese’ and religious orders do accept Older vocations.
    (Blessed be God)
  2. Not all orders require a college degree…Perhaps some college but not always a four year degree.
  3. While deciding if you feel drawn to an order…whether as a priest, brother or sister…do connect with members of that tradition as it helps to see if the rule and way of life fits yours or not.
Blessings to all.

P.S. Please on a personal note …keep me in your prayers…I am working on some family debts and yes the dreaded student loans as they of course must be cleared up prior to entering

Peace and all Good
