Depending upon where you live… you might want to check out the Daughters of the Heart of Mary. They have communities in New York, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey… Their age range is 25-55.

Their web site is www.dhmna.org

Blessings and may the Holy Spirit guide you.

:yup:

I am looking for women religious orders that would accept a woman who is discerning a late life vocation call. What resources are there to help in this process, as the list of orders is long and most state up to 35 yrs. old.
I don’t know if you are still interested in a list of communities that accept older vocations, but I discovered a website that allows you to look for just that.

Women’s Religious Communities that consider/accept older vocations

Hope this helps! Merry CHRIST-Mass!!!👍

For those interested, I’ve been checking out the link in the post above that CarmelitGirl25 left (thank you so much! 👍 ) and the Sisters of the Visitation Monastery in Snellville, GA has no age limit. They accept older women, widows, and those with physical impairments. Though they are cloistered and don’t have a web page, I found a blog entry about them, complete with pictures. It’s at kellywegelphoto.blogspot.com/. It’s the post dated Fri., August 24, 2007. Google has provided me with some much needed information on this community. I will definitely be in contact with them.
All those who are discerning are in my constant prayers. Keep me in yours, too.

I am blessed that I have been given the capacity to help you, hhdavid!! I am happy to hear that you are considering the Visitation Nuns in Snellville. 👍 Praying for you! Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you too, CarmeliteGirl25!
I have been reading though all the threads about older/belated vocations. I feel a connection with all of you. I’ll be posting on here after Christmas, telling my vocation story. It’s not a pretty one, I’m afraid. :imsorry: :sad_yes: But that is for another post.
Merry Christmas to all. May God bless everyone who is discerning their vocation.

With Love In Christ, :signofcross:

I am quite not sure but i think the Intercessors of the Lamb accept late vocations. www.bellwetheromaha.org
I would advise you to be cautious with the Intercessors. Nobody really knows that much about them, and the word “Catholic” is very hard to find on their website. I don’t like spreading rumors, so I won’t say anything I can’t back up, but I feel kind of leary about this group. However, if God is calling someone there, then who am I to stand in their way?😊

I can’t wait to hear your story. God has interesting stories in all of us. I love hearing how He has called others, and seeing how the call transpires in to a life of sacrifice and love. 😉

why? what’s wrong with them?

I can’t see anything wrong with The Intercessors of The Lamb and they certainly have a level of diocesan approval:
On May 27, 1998, The Intercessors of the Lamb were recognized as a Public Association of the Christian Faithful, the second step in becoming an Apostolic Society. At the Canonical Erection, Archbishop Elden Curtiss said, “My congratulations to this family of the Intercessors of the Lamb, but with the congratulations comes the challenge. You’ve just begun and you have much to do.” (See “Community News” for news story and Archbishop Elden Curtiss’ homily at the Canonical Erection.)

I did a search on Phatmass and the Intercessors seem to be relatively well known with nothing adverse stated about them other than some kind of media report which was effectively dismissed as false.

Strange! I thought the Intercessors were quite a good, strong and active Charismatic Order with many new vocations including religious and seminarians.

Here is a rather interesting read of a thread from Catholic Community Forum on the Intercessors:
catholicforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9612

Seems to me with the very little I do know about it and from what I have read that there is a certain ‘resistance’ some can feel when faced with the entirely and totally new in some way.
Thomas, are you by any chance a companion member of The Intercessors and the same “Thomas” as in the thread above or is it coincidence?

Happy Christmas all and to yours also…barb:)

Hi this is taffy42. I do check on this site once in a while and am heartened by the sites that seem to allow “later vocations”. Although I really really need to re-strengthen my prayer life and need to get, “clarified”, in my heart, what country I would “feel” better in, re-entering religious life is still a small flame very much alive in my heart that keeps popping up now and then. I’m taking one day at a time and in the process of clearing out apartment of unecessary paperwork with the intention of getting better organized and helping me to get back to more structured prayer life among other things. By country I mean that right now I only have American citizenship. Due to a breakup in family relations, hopefully temporary and no, not self-initiated, it might take a while to get necessary paperwork to apply for Spanish citizenship, which I can do since my mother is from Madrid. Anyways, God bless to all who post and encourage on this site. And yes, the Intercessors of the Lamb are a Catholic order. God bless, taffy42.

Looking forward to hearing from you after Xmas.

Your story may be very helpful to others ,and I think stories, good or bad, should be told, objectively but frankly. There is no harm in knowing the facts.

Just remember that vocations come from up-down and not down-up. Don’t convince yourself you have a religious vocation because life is hard…

But anyhow, pray to St. Rita, she was a mother and later a nun.

I just warned you because there is an influx of vocations of people who want to escape from the world, and that is not a vocation, but a refugee.

that thomas in catholicforum, and the thomas here ARE THE SAME!

Not trying to hijack the thread, but:

Pro Domina, thanks for the warning. I’m not sure who you are referring to in this post. If it is me, be assured that I am not discerning a vocation because life is hard. If that were the case, I’d been doing this years ago. I’m not looking for an escape. If I were, I’d know where to find it, and it wouldn’t be in a contemplative cloistered community. And I’m not trying to convince myself that I have a vocation. I’m letting the Holy Spirit do that. Life inside a contemplative cloistered community is not easy, either. I know this.
I’m going to talk to my priest to see if he is willing/able to be my spiritual director. I will pray to St. Rita. 🙂
