How is Olga of Kiev a saint?

You can read about her here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olga_of_Kiev

She had people buried alive and burned alive; killed 5,000 drunk Drevlians and had a city set on fire.

She was made a saint because of “her efforts to spread the Christian religion in the country.”

One source says the Orthodox Church made her a saint but as she died before the Great Schism…is she a saint in the Catholic Church as well?

Let us sing hymns to the Benefactor of the world, who exalted the God-wise Olga in the land of Rus’. May he forgive our sins by her intercession.

People change and God forgives.
Look at Saint Paul before he “saw the light” on his way to Damascus. He was going from house to house hounding Christians to prison.
From what I understand, when her husband, Igor was assassinated, Olga or Helga punished his murderers by having them scalded to death and then extended that revenge further by having hundreds of their followers murdered. She later converted to Christianity and we are to assume that she must have regretted wholeheartedly those murders. As a Christian, she devoted herself to converting her people to Christianity.
It is God who makes saints.

You seem to have answered your own question. She is a saint for spreading the faith.
 
Remember that Prince Vladimir (or Volodomyr for you Ukrainians out there) was a notorious fornicator prior to his conversion.
 
And is it certain that it is possible that she is a princess and church made her a saint is good for spreading religion because that she is a princess has power to influence her people?

Church is a business not a religion.

At times, it is true, I was confused, open to Christ’ teaching; Love God and love others, Christ has commanded Peter to feed His sheep.-but today churches is different from first early churches. today church is a business, the church interest is like business just try to get more followers, the interest not really on it’s people.

Before his conversion, St Augustine of Hippo fornicated with a woman who bore him a son. St Paul approved of the death of the first-martyr St Stephen. Repentance is key. 🙂
 
Just a technical note:
According to the English Wikipedia she is honored as saint by Russian Orthodox and (Roman) Catholic Church. Other language mutations state she was canonized by Russian Orthodox Church in 1547 so quite a long time after the Great Schism. I think that post-schism canonizations have no effect for the other side (I can remember at least one Orthodox saint who lived and died before the Schism and is not venerated as a saint by Catholics). Hence I suppose she was (somehow) canonized by Rome too or is at least considered to be saint based on something like “pre-congregation saints”.

Generally, I think that it is interesting how easily bloody Christians with crown tend to be saints…
