Do you have a cite from the GIRM or Redemptionis Sacramentum for this? It’s optional even at Sunday Mass. If it’s not sung it’s omitted.
In another thread, I posted a hierarchy. If there is anything that should be sung at Mass, it’s the Gospel Acclamation (including the Lenten one). However, if there is no one to sing it, then, it is omitted because it is not to be recited. It’s optional even at Sunday Mass. If it’s not sung it’s omitted.
There is a hierarchy of singing in the Church according to Musicam Sacram (1967).Hello,
O.K. - I’ve found it.
GIRM #63 c. The Alleluia or verse before the Gospel may be omitted if they are not sung.
Though the other two parts of that number give me the impression that it would be o.k. to just recite it - or at a minimum requires a clarification on whether it must be sung or can be recited (of course, it is more proper to sing it!). I’ve been to many a daily Mass that only recited the Alleluia.
No; as benedictgal said above, “if it’s not sung, it’s not done.”So if Alelluia is not sung then it spoken in the mass, right?
thanks again
