OH…By the way…thanks SO much for all of your prayers. Keep them up please! Tonight, PRAISE GOD, we were able to get chicken! (Tax refund came in!) I am SO satisfied and SO thankful. Again, thanks for the prayers. I believe in miracles and tonight we had one! Thanks! 😃

Can your doctor give you free samples of meds. My drs were able to do that for me with some of my meds when I asked instead of filling an Rx. If not see if a cheaper drug is available. Dr’s are usually pressured to prescibe the newest meds by drug companies, drugs that don’t have generic equivalants yet, which makes the drug comapny the most money. Many older meds work as good as the newer ones and can be bought as a generic which is cheaper.
also contact the drug manufacturer. Many have programs for those who have chronic conditions but cannot afford their medication.

Thanks…this may prove helpful. Those darn medicines are SO expensive. No, offense, but are they really worth that much?

Can you get generics?
OH, how I wish. Advair holds the brand name monopoly right now. I don’t know how much longer they will either, it’s relatively new. Some have it for 10-15 years! That’s the three hundred dollar one, reduced (thanks to insurance and God) to only 100 for us.

My other inhaler, is 25 as a generic. My antibiotics (about every 3-4 months) are 50-100…they always put me on super duper kind for bronchitus and stuff. The steriods are FIVE dollars. That’s SO nice.

This is not medical advice just something to question your Doc about. Ciprofloxacin is a heavy duty antibiotic, they use it on aids patients, to treat anthrax, and also bronchitis. (see link) pslgroup.com/dg/3fd06.htm
It is generic and available for $4 at Wal-mart (Sam’s Club), free from Meijers if you have one in your area. Dr’s are pushed to prescripe the newest drugs available. There are plenty of long used antibiotics that work very well. Let them know you can not afford it and see if they can prescripe something cheaper like Cipro. You need to be pro-active and let your doctors know your situation. 🙂
Cephalexin (Keflex) is another cheap antibiotic for brochitis, also $4 at Wal-mart. medicinenet.com/cephalexin/article.htm

double coupons help a lot…

i bought 3 packs of pastrami today and becos of the double coupons, one of them turned out to be free…

make sure u make good use of those coupons…!!!👍

You have a good point here. I do NOT like my G.P. He was unknowledgable and a drug pusher. So I quit going to him (for now.) I see a lung specialist for asthma meds. Usually he prescribes a brand name because there isn’t a generic yet. He checks, trust me.

However, next infection I have I will have to mention this. I mean 50 dollars is steep! And it usually takes two rounds!

THANKS! 🙂 You are all so wonderful…bless you!

I don’t know if you like vension, or other game meats but many hunting outfitters donate meat that the hunters have shot and can’t take home with them.

I suggest Whole Foods as a great place to work. The benefits are amazing, CHEAP, and they have a nice discount policy…

A couple of things. Do you have access to a local library? You could try to get hold of the ‘More With Less’ cookbook and ‘Simply in Season’, produced by MCC. They are absolutely brilliant with suggestions of saving money and food - It’s revolutionised how I cook… Tonight we’re having shepherdess pie - carrots, onions, peppers, corgettes, green and red lentils, tinned tomatoes, tinned beans all cooked together, then topped with mashed potato. I don’t know if you could be hungry after a serving of that!

Do you have a freezer? I’m convinced they can help save money in the long run!

In terms of working from home, I had to do this a few years ago. Now in fairness, my work background lent itself to this, but I found it’s sometime easier to get work that’s short term.

So, if you could phone a few organisations (small businesses are best), offering to stuff envelopes when they’ve a mail shot to do, or type up papers. I even spent a day putting documents in alphabetical order. Or how would you feel about tutoring kids in english or maths? If your grammar and spelling are good, there’s often work in proof reading documents. It’s piecemeal, but when things are tight every little helps…

There are also online survey sites. I only know the European ones (try a web search for consumer.customer panels), but you do an online survey and get paid a small fee (usually £1 - around $2). It takes a while to stack up, but again, every little helps! It’s also worth e-mailing companies and asking for free samples (me, mean?). Writing letters to companies whose products you like often results in coupons or free samples.

Oh, and one other thing. Have you joined ‘Freecycle’? It’s amazing what you can pick up, and it’s good for the environment. Do a websearch to see if there’s a local network.

Thanks “Eddy” and “Maria29” Those are some GREAT ideas. We are definitely looking for home-based business work (for me.) I don’t have a degree so it would be hard to go with larger companies, but my husband has been searching for a good small or “family-type” business that needs clerical work that can be done at home.

You guys are all so great! Thanks to everyone, especially those I forgot. You have really great ideas, and I know they come from experience. We’ve all been there.

BTW: your food ideas are all making me hungry! 😃 I’d love to eat at your house sometime…how’s six o clock tonight? 😉

I am quite domestically challenged. :blushing: I never really learned to cook, but I have improved immensely these past 15 months. My darling husband is SO patient with my lack of cooking skills too. Most husbands would have learned to cook for themselves by now…or hired someone. My husband just quietly eats the mishaps…and only a few times it was so bad that he just politely swallowed that bite and ate around that dish. God bless him…he’s a keeper! 👍

God bless you and yours for your kindness to me!

A while back ago, our grocery store was selling canned spinach at 15 cents a can. I bought several cans. Guess what? No one in our family LIKES or will eat canned spinach.😊 Oh well…
I’m Jane come lately on this discussion, but have you tried making it into lasagna with some ground meat and the usual cheese? The spinach taste is not overpowering and you use less meat. No one in my family minds the limper texture of canned spinach when it is inside this dish.

Yes my husband has been looking for something I can do from home. We just can’t find anything in this city.
Have you thought about running an ebay type business from home? You can learn how to sell on ebay just by doing tutorials on their website. You don’t have to pay for expensive seminars.

I know people who go to garage/estate sales when they can and they resell nice items when they find them cheaply. It pays to research what types of items sell on that site before purchasing anything for resale. However, it is something to think about perhaps when you have a little better cash flow. Also there are small businesses in my area where the owners sell items on “consignment” for other people on ebay. They get a fee that covers the cost of listing the item and mailing it to the buyer plus a percentage of whatever it sells for. The owner of the item is saved the hassle of doing the sale.

You can now print UPS labels from your home computer and call the truck to pick up your packages, so you would not have to leave your home often.

My dad has his own ebay business just like this and it IS very successful. That’s a good suggestion!

My husband does get a discount with shipping…but…he would probably get fired if he went with UPS…he’s a Fed Ex Man! 😃
