Once one has eaten tacos in Mexico City, like a cochinita or cabrito taco, one realizes how bad Taco Bell is. 😅 Now I only tolerate Chipotle Mexican Grill :plate_with_cutlery:

Or…any city with a large Hispanic population! Kids eat at Taco Bell (Toxic Hell) because it’s cheap. The adults all know where the truly delicious Mexican food it. Costs a bit more but it’s still very reasonably priced. We have several in our town that are outstanding! They make their own burrito and taco shells and even the chips. Plus, often have a variety of salsas, avocado spreads, real homemade refried beans and chili rellenos! Oh, and Spanish rice! So stinking good! 😋

Never heard of Maccas until this thread. What is it? I don’t believe there is one near the 3 IHOPs I know of in three different states.

Come to Colorado! I’ve never heard of this restaurant! Are they like an IHOP? I chose IHOP because they have a more varied menu plus, I can eat breakfast any time of the day. We often do breakfast for dinner in my house.

“Maccas” = McDonald’s. Bit of slang.

ETA: But apparently not as common as I thought…

I’ve never heard it referred to a Maccas! I thought you were talking about some breakfast chain! 😂😂😂

I agree.

Five guys is good but not as good as In and Out.

Haven’t tried Whataburger yet.

There was a place like that here where I live but they never pulled it off. My wife, who is from Southern California, wanted us to try there once to test their authenticity and we both agreed afterward that the food was awful. Despite knowing what “real” Mexican food is like, she is quite happy with Taco Time, Canada’s version of Taco Bell. We have both franchises here but people who try them say Taco Time is the better one.

I have never in over 6 decades seen one with an IHOP but no Maccas.
Well, since I’ve never heard of Maccas you’ll have to overlook the absence. Besides, it’s just a fictitious poll meant for a bit of fun. It was not my intention to include every possible choice for every possible taste.

We have several Taco Bell competitors here besides the good Mexican restaurants. The TB copycats are about the same as TB…mostly bad with some a small notch above the others but nothing compared to the good ones.

When I visited Cali several years ago, I had some of the worst Mexican food ever! What they put into burritos is criminal and the cilantro! Everything had cilantro and way too much! It’s just a Cali thing I guess!

We even have a little bakery that makes taco shells and burrito shells as well as Mexican pastries and they have long lines waiting to but their products all the time. Many Mexicans say they no longer make them at home as this place is so good and easy. Their tamales are to die for!

Never meant to start the tempest in a teapot here, or to imply that the original poll was deficient or anything. I was just replying to a post that used the “small town” bit relative to another post pointing out the lack of “maccas” (slang for McDonald’s) in the list . I will just shut up now before I inadvertently offend again.

Our oldest son went through a cilantro phase. It was a good time to be “busy” when invited for a meal. LOL

Maccas is McDonalds, Aussie slang. Maccas is very popular here.
KFC was good until that rabbit tastes like chicken controversy

I put I-Hop because you can probably find something not too spicy on their menu–if all else fails, a pancake and some scrambled eggs, one of my favorite meals. As long as I stick with just ONE pancake! Two means definite bloat!

It’s not pleasant to eat somewhere that gives you indigestion while you are travelling. All the other choices sound like Heartburn Heaven, especially Taco Bell, but also KFC, and Burger King.

My husband would NEVER eat at KFC–he does not eat meat with bones, fat, gristle, or skin, or anything that makes his fingers messy! His nightmare food is barbequed ribs–they have everything he hates!

Subway might be a good choice in the warm months (although my husband refuses to eat there because of the way that they dumped Jared), but the idea of a cold sub and veges is not appealing in the later autumn/winter. I don’t really like their hot subs (meatball, steak, etc.), which are very filling and again, could cause some heartburn if you’re sitting in car for hours.

My husband and I love eating at the big truck stops (e.g., Petro City), and we look for these when we are driving. Many have a buffet, and these often feature dishes like liver and onions! And there’s a great salad bar!

Sadly, all of these places, the ones in the poll, and the trucks stops, are closed to indoor dining in Illinois. We visited Petro City on Sunday, and it was incredibly sad. One trucker eating a fast food sub sandwich prepared by the Sandwich Shop in the truck stop, and he was sitting in the hallway at a little table six feet away from a few other little tables. He was reading a book. No one to talk to.

So if the road trip were now during COVID, we would probably stop at a grocery store, which we can still go inside (waiting for Gov. J.B. Pritzker to put a stop to that!), and buy something at the deli, or some of those cheese and crackers in the little packages, and find a bench somewhere in the store and eat there.
