Are Children’s Mass valid? (With children serving as lay readers and
commentators? Sometimes there’s a short skit after the Gospel reading)

And are Charismatic Masses acceptable? (The priest speaking in tongues during the Agnus Dei?)

Is it licit to attend SSPX Masses?

I would not attend an SSPX Mass (except for perhaps a wedding or funeral but then I would not receive communion) though there are rumors the SSPX is to become a personal prelature so I would perhaps reconsider at least attending one if that were to become the case. If you want to attend Masses in the Extraordinary Form, look for diocesan or FSSP parishes offering them. Other than that, if a Mass in the Ordinary Form strays from the Missal then there is a problem. Say the black and do the red.

Priests “speaking in tongues” during the Mass are not following the GIRM. I would be leery of validity. Unless, of course, the tongue he is speaking is Latin. 🙂

Please note that there is a great difference between the terms valid and licit… Also, if something is illicit, sinful; it may be so for one actor but not another. Some small irregularities in the Mass may or may not be sinful for the priest celebrant, but they do not make the Mass or the Eucharist invalid. The Church does have an approved form for a Children’s Mass.

To your third question, it is not inherently sinful for a layperson to attend an SSPX Mass. However, a Catholic should never encourage schismatic tendencies or movements. Never donate money to the SSPX until they come back into full communion with the Church.

The Church has approved the Charismatic Movement.

The Church has approved Children’s liturgies and Mass options.

The SSPX (at this time) are not in a fully approved status.

People have opinions about all of the above, but those opinions do not change the Church’s position.

I don’t interact much with “traditionalist” Catholics, but if I did it would be with more run-of-the-mills traditionalists, not extremists like SSPX.

As for attending their mass, I’m curious why you’re interested in doing so (if you’re inclined to share).

not extremists like SSPX.
SSPX look nice when you compare them to sedevacantist. The sedevacantist I have come across are radical, while I do come across some radical SSPXers, but I do see them as frequently online.

The only thing that is required for a Mass to be valid is matter (bread that has gluten) and non fermented wine (or mustum), intent to do as the church does, form (This is My Body, This is My Blood), and minister (priest or bishop). If anyone is in an irregular status(SSPX), schismatic (like the Orthodox), and/or heretic (Catholic priest that becomes Anglican), would have an illicit Mass, but it would be valid.

Hi! I’m very curious about the Catholic faith. Been a Catholic sonce June 2015. (Havent received Confirmation since I was baptized outside the Easter season) , and my research interests lie in liturgy and Catholic literature. I was hoping to study the liturgyin-depth God willing if I finish my graduate work on literature (planning to write a master’s thesis on Philippine Fiction and the Catholic imagination), Im curious with a lot of stuff

I’m curious with Traditional Catholicism and the Trad Latin Mass which is why the SSPX got my attention. Though there is a Una Voce Church offering the TLM it is very far from my diocese.

With regard to Children’s Masses can someone point me to a reference showing its norms?

On charismatic masses: I attended one and I hear the priest speaking in tongues before he elevates the Host for the Agnus Dei. I know the Charismatics got Papal approval I was hoping someone could point me to guidelines in how they celebrate Mass THANKS!😊

So the Dimond Brothers aren’t at the top?
Heh. Well I hadn’t thought of them, but I was thinking Aren’t there groups who claim that the real pope is someone out there who was not chosen by any conclave but by direct intervention from above? :hmmm:

Apologies to the OP if I’m too far off topic. 😊
