Hello my friends,
I’m writing today so that those who suffer especially from the sin of lust, which I have struggled to overcome with sporadic success, may find some tips as to finding this particularly troubling sin and if you would wish to add your own methods, it would be very helpful since a diversity of different ideas is preferable to having one.
As for myself, lust always seemed to be something that was aided by circumstances in which I found myself, usually in the unfortunate circumstances where I found myself to be alone. When finding myself in such an occasion, it was always the idea that you would distract yourself with an activity, any activity; idle hands are the Devil’s workshop as they say. Although it helped to abate the temptation for a time, there would come a point in the evening where it would be time to go to bed and it is in these moments were temptation always seemed to strike like a coiled snake. Though mitigating factors that would contribute to an occasion sin and though Our Lord’s saying, “And if thy hand, or thy foot scandalize thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee. It is better for thee to go into life maimed or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into everlasting fire,” (Matthew 18:8) is absolutely important, I believe lust is ultimately a matter of excessive pride in one’s self. A person will be a slave to the sight of every person they are attracted to since you believe they will be a slave in their passion to you. There is no better remedy for this then to pray for humility since humility opens the eyes of a man to reality and calls himself to account of what he is actually capable of then to what he presumes he is capable of. I’ve been doing this for the past few weeks and I’ve yet to feel the pang of lust that I used to.
I hope my friends, especially those of you who suffer from lust, I know what you are going through. If any of you who come unto this thread who would like to give your own methods of dealing with pestering sin, please do write them here. I firmly believe that this is the defining sin of the decade that most Catholics suffer and I believe there needs to be a concerted effort to combat this. We must pray to the Lord that He may grace us with humility and from that foundation may we grow in chastity.
May God bless you all my friends.
